My buddy has got me talked into shooting in an IDPA match in a couple weeks. I picked up a used Les Baer Concept VI 1911 last week, what a sweet .45!! :D
Anyone else into the gun games?

I shot IPSC (w/Kimber single-stack .45) for quite a while but am currently on hiatus due to family commitments. However, the club just notified me there is a new class this year for single-stack 1911s - no rails, 8 rd. mag limit but ambi safeties, mag funnels, ext. grip safeties are o.k. This sounds like fun - single stackers were getting a bit outgunned on some stages by the plastic double stacks.

I tried IPSC back in the late 80's, using a Series 70 Mk IV, in Limited Class.
I shot 3 or 4 matches, and really couldn't afford it.
I didn't do very well, and kept getting proceedurals for getting lost in the stages.

I only shot one IDPA match and it was fun, but a little slow moving. Each shooter had an RO follow them like a "running judgement call" as to whether they were behind cover, etc. etc. It took a while to get everybody through the course but it was a good shoot.

My impression was that IDPA was a protest movement in response to how complicated and gear-oriented IPSC was getting, but from the sound of things IPSC might be straightening part of that out. After all, what sense does 30 shots from one shooting box with no mandatory reloads make? No wonder Jeff Cooper said they "were off in pursuit of strange Gods."
