Any IDPA USPSA, 3 gun shooters?

After about an 18 yr lapse, I have gotten back into competitive shooting again. I shot in an IDPA match last week, and had a good time.
My accuracy was very good, I need to work on some things to finish higher though. Next week, an USPSA match, the following week, a 3 gun match.
I am pretty good with an 870, shoot the 1911 ok, but rifles aren't my strong suit. I have a blinged out AR carbine, so I will shoot that I guess.

Anyone else into the gun games?

Got started in military competition, PPC, National Match, early IPSC...pretty much the whole route. The new stuff is interesting...shooting skills have been de-emphasized and the targets are *real* close and there's more focus on agility. I think I liked it better the way it used to be.

Before my daughter came along I was starting IDPA, but found that I'm a horrible shot when people are watching.

Probably very telling of some psychotic issues I thought long buried.

It is fun, I had bought a remington comp master shotgun for trying 3-gun but rarely have the time to actually get out and do something like that!

I've considered it but it just doesn't appeal to me.

What we need is a milsurp division; extend the ranges for the rifle courses, substitute carbines/subguns for shotguns, and ensure that all three firearms are from the same government during the same period of time. I'd be all over that. (And with my Nagant revolver, I'd quite literally be all over the target.) Weapons would have to be in "as-issued" condition. Rebarrelling and handloads would be acceptable. I'm still deciding how the various time periods should be split up, but the earliest ought to be black powder only. At least one course would involve close combat against hanging dummies.

For WWII-era, the cost for a full setup would be similar, if not less, than a modern deal. (It would depend on nationality of course. One could conceivably get a foot in the door with a Russian setup for less than $400.)

Now how cool would that be?

The club I belong to runs matches for military bolt guns and military gas guns on different nights of the week with the requirements you describe and it is very cool indeed. In February they have "Frozen Chosen" shoots (-degrees F) where you have to use Korean War stuff and it is very well attended. The Lever Action Rifle matches are what float my boat though.

I shoot IPSC/USPSA, going on 7 years now. Last 3 years have been fewer matches than before (workload, and a great local club shut down the twice-monthly pistol matches), but I have set a goal of one match per month this year and so far have stuck to it.

I shoot local 3-gun matches when I can get to them. Twice yearly I help RO a local tactical 3-gun match, it is more IDPA style (but without all the yelling). They need alot more competition out there though, this spring I finished 7th out of 80 shooters, that is crazy. Alot of the really competative shooters stopped attending since the round count was kinda low. But it has been very good to see the improvement in average skills over the years I have RO'd, and the match gets alot of different folks into the game.

Equipment is pretty simple for me. Various flavor Glocks for pistols, usually my 10mm G20 in Limited division. Plain Benelli M1S90 for shotgun. 16" AR with Aimpoint or FAL with 1-4 scope for rifle, depending on the range.

Dave, I have heard of 3-gun matches where there is a theme of using equipment from certain periods. Just gotta have somebody to do the work to set it up. My friend who lived in AZ had 3-gun matches there which were pistol, subgun, and rifle.
