Hello, first post on this fine forum. I could not find anything about this handle (tool?) maker. Just purchased one of their sledge handles and was wondering how old these might be and are they any good.

Markings on the handle reads:
SUNFLOWER
EHI A/B
TURNERDAY
MANUFACTURED IN CROSSVILLE, TENN. U.S.A.

Then there is a picture of a retarded looking dog or wolf above the word HICKORY.

I could post a link to the store for pictures but I guess that is not allowed. And I get the thing only maybe next week.
Thanks for any info in advance.

So it´s pretty old and almost lowest of the grades. Well I´ll see what kind of piece they will send me. I was hoping to build a maul, a sledge or a big fireaxe.
Thanks, that was a good read.

Got the handle today. No knots, all white, straight grain, 18 rings/inch, slight kink in the middle, deformed upper part.
Grain orientation pretty much opposite to optimal. No stamp, even though I kindly requested a nicely stamped one. That´s customer service in Finland.
Well, this handle is not worth building a heavy hitter (mostly because it´s lacking that funny Tennessee dog I wanted).
It´s thick and long enough to be a short hunting bow stave or material for smaller tool handles. Good hickory is somewhat hard to get here.
