Any info on the BRKT Teddy?

Does anyone here have experience using the Teddy? I’ve been looking for that type of knife with a stacked leather handle and I was going to buy the SOG Super Bowie (hate the name) but then I saw the Leather Teddy and wondered if that wouldn’t be a better knife. The SOG is bigger (12.87” long, 17oz and 1/4” thick) but it uses AUS8 vs. A-2 with the Teddy but to be honest I’m new to Bark River knives and my Bravo-1 is the only A-2 knife I own. This knife will be used, I go camping a lot and it would be used for some chopping (I have larger knives for that) but mostly used to clear brush from a campsite and in and around the woods. It will have to get dirty.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

I'll tell you this as one who's had a long love for the SOG Bowie design--I have a couple of the old carbon steel versions from SOG, as well as customs by Voorhis--it's a fighter. The blade geometry makes for an extremely strong blade and excellent tip for penetrating, but that deep (and I do mean DEEP) hollow grind really limits its general cutting utility. You end up with a very heavy knife that nonetheless can't chop very well, and doesn't slice well except in very shallow cuts.

Bark River's quality control is very good, they stand behind their products, and unless you plan to be around a lot of saltwater or not clean the blood/animal fats off your blade, A2 will run circles around AUS8. The Teddy's blade geometry is also eminently more useful for your intended uses. I don't have one but I have several other Barkies and have never been disappointed. I do think the Teddy is one of the best looking designs they've put out--my problem has always been deciding between the teddy and the teddy hunter. :D

You might take a quick look at the Fallkniven Northern Lights series here (the NL1 through NL5). I don't own one of these, but with the little I've yet done with it I've been impressed with my Fallkniven S1.
