I have asked this question before today, never had an answer.
I only have a small collection of Buck knives.
All but this one, came in a yellow or off-white box.
This one is a rough, rag looking white box.

I do not think this 1966 Schrade made Buck 301 came in this box... Ken

This is the other box, some of the early Buck 301s made by Schrade and Camillus came in.

I always thought it was just a early production box... I have a few of them kind of off-white slash/cream... I also thought maybe they faded from sitting in the sun buy a window in a knife shop/gun shop...

:)

Thanks for your thoughts, the other boxes are smooth.
This box has a texture like it's made or covered by cloth. Ken

Interesting box, thanks for sharing. In keeping with ITE's comment about the sun.... are the sides of the lower box half that were covered different/darker than the exposed top? /Roger

I have a few of these boxes, just like yours, I have no factual information on their date of use. BUT, it seems older knives came in my half dozen or so. I could look in the boxes for papers and dates but my box filing system is the pile in a file drawer method and will take some time. 300Bucks

Look what I found a photo from some past posting, don't see any useful data but price looks good to me. Papers could be from any of the three boxes...Don't write on your boxes....300
