I thought it looked interesting, and the blade material/tang stamp seemed old enough to warrant taking a chance on it. I haven't been able to find any information on it.

I saw that one. It looks like a nice solid knife.

The rough pin under the "M" makes me think the scales are a one-off custom job. I have never seen the like before on a Kabar. I think it's a 1950s stamp. Hopefully Gunsil can be more specific.

The scales are not factory, look like they were done by one of the western silver shops who specialized in cowboy buckles and bolo ties. I would bet the scales are sterling silver with 10K gold initials which was a common combination for such shops. Knife was made from around 1943 when they began that stamp and the late 1940s when they adopted the KA-BAR over USA stamp. I had it on my watch list too, but the value is in the cowboy style scales rather than a KA-BAR specimen to me. I also forgot to place a bid due to food shopping, but I don't know if I would have gone higher than North Shore. By the way North Shore, that name is also used by a friend on mine in MA for his charter fishing business.

Gunsil,

Thanks for the info. The North Shore is a coastal region of Massachusetts north of Boston proper, south of Seabrook, NH. There are some people who consider cities and towns more inland to be part of the North Shore but historically its a short list of towns and cities along the coast.

There are many "north shores". My buddy's North Shore Charters is on Martha's Vineyard and refers to the north shore of that island. Long Island has a north and south shore, and if you google "North Shore Charters" you will see same name used in many places. So are you located on the north shore of MA you refer to here? Northeast Cutlery Collectors Association has a one day knife show 9/11 this year in Marlboro, MA, you may want to go check it out if you like knives. You can go to their site for more info and directions to the show. A lot of good stuff to be seen, sold, bought, and traded for there. I will likely set up for one day at the Middletown,NY gun show 9/10 and just go to Marlboro to look around and hang out with some friends there.

I wasn't aware of that knife show, I'm fairly new to collecting I will have to check it out there is a date in November as well per their website.
