the $3K one looks a lot like my old diver circa '79, really looks a lot alike in the face/bezel.

i would venture to say at $3K not many of those are sold, give me a sea dweller or sub any day.

good watches though irregardless, 26 yrs old and never had the back off, runs fine loses about 2-3 min a week, have gotten my $$ outta it for sure lol.

Seiko makes nice diver watches. However, unless your going to be doing saturation diving, you probably don't really need a helium purge valve. But then again, what's "need" got to do with it? :)

I "need" it for deep submersible home showers. :D :D

I'd go with the Tuna. I heard that Seiko's don't need the He valve, because it doesn't get in there in the first place

Personally, I think that any Seiko Diver is a great bang for your buck watch. The high end prospex, although I only have limited experience with them seem to rival the big dogs in terms of quality, fit, and finish. The Tuna Can is a neat watch but you are pretty limited where you can wear it..as in, it doesn't quite go well with a suit and tie. I think that the best deal of the four mentioned would be the '5 Diver or one of its brethren like the 007, etc. Although my 007 isn't as fancy as my Seamaster or tough as my Doxa, it is a great EDC and beater.

Howdy! I like the 5 diver, personally, though I prefer the model with the orange/yellow lined hands. Some people questioned the need for a compass feature on a diver, but I really think its distinctive. Personally, I don't care for the Tuna because it just takes "large watch" to an almost comical level- and for a watch that big why not just get a Pam (price notwithstanding). The Marine master is a classic, 'nuff said. The spring drive is VERY trick for the money, but for that kind of money I'd rather have a Pam.

All-in-all, I personally prefer the venerable 007/009 for Seiko watches. Classic design, lots of modding can be done to it, tons of replacement movements available. Overall, just a good all around watch that you won't be afraid to use it every day. Just my .02, and worth what you paid.

Sincerely,
Anthony

You will notice the 'Sports 5' does not say Profesional nor Diver's on the face. Hence the 'compass feature'.

If you are spending over $100 on a Seiko I would sugest a Diver's rated model. Even just a Scuba Divers rating like my 'Black Monster' model.

BTW, Tuna can rocks. Do they still make the auto one???

Personally, I don't think anyone will dive to the rated depths of any of those watches. This is especially true of sport (SCUBA) divers. And most commercial divers don't reach those depths either. When I worked in the Gulf of Mexico as a commercial diver, topside kept track of time, not the diver. In fact, I never saw a diver even wear a watch while diving commercially. Your done when topside says your done or you have an emergency and need to be hauled up. Nearly everyone wore G-Shocks when they were topside. Oh, a few guys wore jewelry "show" watches off shore, but not many. Those were reserved for when we got back on shore as show pieces.

So, having said all that, get the one that you like best. They are all going to be durable and tell time. And, if you do decide to wear it diving it will be fine.
