I had a couple of these..gave the white bone one away years ago.
I don't know much about it ...but LB 4? Bear Hunter and Solingen?
Great knife..likely 70s or 80s?

Pakistani. They came with a "PAKISTAN" etch on the back of the blade. I imagine the etch wore off easily. I'd be surprised if the steel came from Solingen. They were sold with a variety of handle materials.

Examples of several LB-4's marked "SOLINGEN STAINLESS440" with the "PAKISTAN" etch.

That's disappointing. I was going to opine that Schrade must have contracted some from Germany. It sure looks like my Uncle Henry LB-7.

I don't know where I got this Pakistani, but I can't fault the fit and finish or lock-up, and they stamped "Pakistan" deep, like they were proud of it. I'll use it and see if it's as good as OP's.

Bear Hunter is Frost brand started in the mid 90's. It was one of the early attempts to make a better dirt cheap ($5-10 back then) folder. Almost all were medium to large traditional patterns. It was said they were made from an imported German 440 class steel. They caused a bit of a brouhaha, as it became popular to erase the Pakistan stamp, as Killgar mentioned.

As an aside, Olbertz folders were also ink stamped Germany sometimes also, those were co-branded with old defunct US trademarks.

Yes, Frost cutlery who still advertises " German stainless" on their pakistani made folders.

I have an Olbetz OFFICE KNIFE that just has the GERMANY pad print or whatever it is, somebody told me many of these basic replicas were orderd from Olbertz by Parker or something.

OK then..seems fairly conclusive.
Does anyone else find this kind of "marketing" to be a below par consumer con job?
That said its not a bad knife.
Cheers.
