I don't know the maker personally, but from what my Knives '98 book tells me about the him, and judging from the picture of the knife, it doesn't look like you lost out--especially if bidding ended on the price shown.

If the heat treat is good, and the grind & finish are as good as they look in the pic, I wouldn't have minded getting it myself!
