I received a request today to make a bare bones knife with no scales or sheath but with holes for wrapping if needed. Is this something that might interest any of you? Im sure I could find a kydex bender to do some sheaths for them if needed but it would raise the price obviously. Just putting a feeler out there. I think a bare knife with the antique finish would be pretty cool, like a 3.5" wharnie with a 4" or so handle.

KFU, two of my favorite knives are fixed blades from Strider. One is a 6" fixed tanto with cord wrapped handle, & the other is a 5" spear point with a cord wrapped handle. I also have a Strider 4" fixed blade that I bought about 14 years ago, can't remember the model, but it has a cord wrapped handle as well. My only request would be to make sure the "handle" in completely cut out, not just "holes" to wrap the cord thru. Take a look at the CRKT "Stiff Kiss" model by Ed Halligan. It's about a 3 1/2" - 4" neck knife fixed blade, handle is great to wrap . . . .
And as far as kydex sheaths, if you go out on your deck with a "moose" call, you could probably find some kydex sheaths . . . . . . ;) ;) ;)

sounds good to me - and before there was an Izula or Eskabar, I carried one of the CRKT Stiff KISS blades -- loved everything about it but the hollow grind.
what kind of price are you thinking Chris?

I might do some. Im thinking around 50.00 without sheath. I don't know about the skeletonized handle though. That would add alot of time. Maybe just some big holes all the way down.

drill a hole at either end and use a cut off wheel to take out the steel between?

Nah.

Not for me,but thanx for asking.

If you & BA hadn't spoiled me with beautiful, exotic woods, well,then,maybe....

Nah.

I'm thinking: Not so much.

If I buy a KFU custom or a BA custom, I want the wood that knifemaker chose for me.

And I do mean wood...not the dreaded Mickeyarta....

Rope wrap looks good on sailing vessels and amateur bondage freaks....IMO.

Just got the peter r Integral in 0-1,and like the wavy textured handle...

Will have a Daniel Fairly Knives Ti Wharnie here soon, and since it's a minimalist knife,I want the plain dimpled handles on it.

But as far as getting a bare blade from you or BA?

I'd be kicking my own ass before I got back from the mailbox.

And it would just cost me extra, sending it back to be finished.....Nah.

But,as always, that's just me....and I have no gripe with those who want to make their own handles!

Chris, either use Vik's way or like you said, a series of connected holes. The cord wrapping around the handle would take care of hiding the cut out steel. I just checked all my handles and you can not tell what type of cut out is on any of them, the cord wrapping on the Strider's and the two I did myself just look like the cording is wrapped thru and around the outside of them . . . .

Ok, so Im going to profile out a couple of these tomorrow and see how it goes. Im thinking something smaller, like 6 1/2 to 7" OAL would work best. I am in the process of nailing down a kydex bender to make sheaths at an additional price if the buyer is interested in one. It won't add that much cost to them and it will be a unique and quality sheath Im sure, from this guy :)

And, I will try the skeletonized handle!

Good kydex benders are everywhere.

Really good kydex benders are fairly easy to find. ;)

Unique kydex benders?
You can count 'em on your thumbs & big toes....there are exactly four on this planet,IMHO.

There is Rainwalker, azwelke, Kiah, and GRIFFINHAWKS.

And that,my friends,is yer daym Sunday Morning Sermon, from the Gospel According To Gnarly.

Well it looks like I found the right guy :)

I'd like to see a tiny Nessmuk. Roughly 2.75" blade and 3.5" handle. Skeletonized or not.

EDIT: I see there is already a small Nessie. Hmm...

OB, Im at work now but it will be around 3 3/4 handle and 3" blade

Folks, this is going to be interesting. Can't wait to see this idea progress forward . . . .
Be safe.
