Any interest in an axe like this?

This axe has been a wallhanger for a lot of years. It has a 6 inch cutting edge and is 7.5 inches from edge to back. It is beveled on one side only. It has a straight 16.5 inch handle but I think it has been changed. I've been told it was a broadaxe and a hewing axe. Maybe some of you can add to that. Thanks.

They are used to square the sides of logs, ie cabin construction, etc. Broad axe for larger logs, hewing hatchet for smaller.

Paul, I think this is way to heavy to be classified as a hatchet. Its as heavy as my double bit axe, maybe it falls between axe and hatchet somewhere.

Jake, I've often wondered that myself. Most of the hewing hatchets I've seen are fairly heavy.

Hewing involves short swings and chops so a heavy head is essential. You wouldn't achieve much with a light tool.
