Any jade scales out there?

As I'm sure many of you like to do once in a while, I am putting together my dream custom knife that I hope one day to be able to get made. All in my head of course.

Jade strikes me as a fantastic material. Hard, pretty, green (I love green, especially the darker tones), and classy. So if you've got it, show it :D

Hmm, never had a knife with rock on it. I have been debating having the jade g10 used on a custom. Still on the fence about that one. Look forward to seeing some great examples

Edit:

The pic below I am using a botryoidal jade rock as the background. It was helicoptered from a private mine in Northern California. I am a bit of a rockhound and am a stone cutter by profession.

Stone cutter has to be one of those really undervalued professions that many people need, but few care to think about. Pretty cool if you ask me! Here is something along the lines of what I was thinking about that I found on the internetz.

The scales that is. Beautiful colours!

I see a fair number of high end Art Knives with jade inlays. But Traditional knives not so much except maybe the occasional Lock Back. I suppose Ron Lake's Tail Locks have been considered Traditional and you can probably find jade examples of his work. Mike Alsdorf is a slip joint maker who has utilized Inter Frame construction and I know he has worked with some stone inlays. You might look up his work.

I researched a lot about jade when trying to piece together a custom piece of jewelry for my wife. I learned about all types of jades such as quality Siberian, Guatemalan, Yukon, Canadian, Big Sur, and especially Wyoming jade. A lot of the Wyoming jade was nice and dark which triggered the idea on what if you could jig the material for a traditional handle? I'm not entirely certain of its durability and hardness, though, and wonder if that's why you see interframe applications like the above picture?

At some point or other, you might want to visit Redrummd. He has a forum here, Art In Stone.

His web site is

He does some truly spectacular work making stone scales.

He is also famous for responding to strange threads in W&C with, "Wow."

You beat me to it. His Jade kitchen knives are absolutely gorgeous. I would love to see some more from him.

So it is pretty safe to say that there are very very few jade traditionals out there then. The Redrummd knives were fantastic! Thanks for awaring me of him/them.

UM. Oh, my golly.

Thanks for the link, protourist.

You're welcome. Are those sweet or what? I can picture him doing a Buck 110 with those scales...
Kinda like this one.

To ensure that we keep this Traditional, here is another example of his work...

Very interesting thread..The colour of jade shown in these pics is nothing like our New Zealand jade...My good friends father is a world class stone cutter (ie,he gets commissioned from people all over the world for his jade and silver work)...I will go and see him and take some pics for you all to see.......FES

A company that I have had good work done by is Santa Fe Stone Works. Though I don't have any traditionals with their work I have a number of their collabs that all show exemplary work.

Malachite is one of my favorites, along with copper bolsters.
