Hello all, I am thinking of leaving the country for a year or two and have a few places in mind Nepal, Brazil, Jamaica, Ghana and Thailand. I have am wanting to spend a year or two in a couple of countries to decide where I want to retire. I want to know what opportunities are there for Americans if they relocate to Nepal. What would living there be like and how much on average would I need to take with me in order to live comfortably for say 1-3 months until I obtained a job. Are their work permits required? Do I need a visa to enter the country? Any information will be welcome. Thanks.

Peace Corps might be an option to consider. Or UN/WHO. Nepal is a poor country and I doubt they would be interested in issuing work permits unless they thought you would bring in more money and jobs than you were extracting from the economy. I may be wrong on this.

Americans do need a visa to enter. At least I got one last time I went.
