Little bit disappointed in the Spec Bump I just got. :(

I really, really want to like it, but the blade is biased towards the clip side liner and rubs when opening and closing. Granted, the design is compact, so there's not much gap between the liners and blade even if perfectly centered, but I can see there's definitely more gap on one side than the other. More like no gap on the clip side.

I took the thing apart and put it back together a number of times, and every time I snug the pivot, the blade pushes to the clip side liner and makes contact. The feel of the blade making contact with the liner is sickening.

I can loosen the pivot to the point where the balde no longer makes contact with the liner (and slightly at that), but then there's a ton of slop laterally when the blade is locked open.

Even when closed, and inspecting the blade around the pivot, it appears that the blade is biased towards the clip side of the liner- like the entire blade is offset within the liners.

Any one have any experience with this or suggestions?

(BTW, I've solved similar issues before with a simple take-down, clean, and rebuild. The first Mini-Skirmish I had exhibited a similar problem, but was easily remedied by taking it apart and putting it back together. Just can't seem to make that happen on this thing.)

Sounds Like either the front handle or back handle( clip side ) may have a slight bow - this can cause this issue.

Sometimes the g-10 will do this after 3D machining the outside.

Could be a couple of other things.....but not likely.

Please send it to my attention and I'll get her fixed up and back to you right away.

Sorry for the trouble.

Hey Craig-

Just wondering if you received my Spec Bump ok and if you could give me any idea of when I might expect it back? Hopefully you were able to get it squared away.

Thanks!

wow, that is impressive customer service. cant wait for spec-bump in S30V.

Just a bump in hopes Craig or another Kershaw rep might be able to let me know the status. (Can't contact via board options...)

Firebat,

Your knife shipped today - sorry for the delay.

I didn't have any spare handles - so I swapped you for a new one.

I hope you don't mind.

Let me know.

Thanks.

Craig.

Hey Craig, no problem at all.

Thanks a ton for the good service, much appreciated.

Did you see the probem on the one I sent back? Was there in fact a bow in one of the handle sides as you suspected?

Just curious.

I'll post back when I get it.

And just like that, problem solved. :D

Thanks Craig, and thanks Kershaw. This new one is perfect. I'm really glad we got this worked out.

Kershaw just jumped about three notches in my personal hierarchy of production manufacturers. The customer service is top notch, and the product is positively outstanding.

Watch out for Kershaw folks. They're obviously serious about stepping up their game and really challenging the "big two".

I think I'm going to enjoy having this Spec Bump around.
