Any Knife Making Classes in North Alabama?

You have Batson's symposium. The one this year is already gone, but will be back come next spring.Otherwise you will need to look in the back of the yearly knives book and start calling some makers to see if they can help you out.

I am in the NE corner of MS if I am close enough to help you out.

The main problem I am having is grinding the points of my knives. I can't seem to get a good hollow grind much less an even grind on the point.

Smokeater:

If you can manage it, you need to visit Tom Militano's shop. That guy turns out some of the nicest grinds I have seen. I'm sure he can show you a few tips.

Not only that, he is a super nice guy (even if he is a yankee import:D )

Smokeater,

North Carolina Custom Knifemakers Guild has courses In conjunction with Montgomery College @ Troy, N.C. I just attended a course there on folders whic was excellent. Hope this is of help.

Go with Joe's recommendation!

I believe there is a class specifically on grinding coming up in June. I've taken a fixed blade class last year with Tommy McNabb and the Jones Brothers, as well as the folder class Joe took taught by Ed VanHoy and the Joneses. They have an outstanding program there and you get to leave the class with some great new skills and a finished knife. It would be well worth the drive.
