i have a few old knives (slipjoints)that have been sharpened
so much theres not any blade left.
well used, but some great looking bone,ff,etc.
anyone familiar with a tutorial on how i can get them
apart without ruining them?
i want to repair them for my own use,or my collection.
i don't plan on selling, but if i did i would be honest about
any repairs.
i know a little, but not enough to change blades.
these are slipjoints,

thanks rj,i'll try and find his info now.
i did after posting this find a little info on getting the blade pins
cut.
i read to use a butcher knife to slice thru the blade pins?
i will see what he say too.
that may,or may not be a good way.

Yea,you can take a very thin blade knife or a razor blade is what i use,and cut the knife right in half between the frame and the blade/backspring.Finding good replacement blades for vintage knives is the problem.

seals, can you take a blade from another knife and re-shape
the tang area to that of the one to replace?
if it's too thick, can you thin it on the sander?

Maybe so,maybe no.There are things you can do,but are they worth the time and trouble? If you end up with a mismatched blade ,it can only be a user with little value.

true seals, but it sure will look better in my display rather
than in my box of junk knives.

JD,Have you nosed around in the makers forum? There is more info in the stickys there than any one person could possibly know.If you get stumped, the guys there are happy to answer sincere newbie questions. But do go through the stickies first.I believe there are links to lots of good tutorials.Good luck with your project. What i saw looked very good.:D
