Any knife shops in the Baltimore area?

I'm looking for a good knife shop in MD, DE, northern VA or southern PA, between Chambersburg and Lancaster. I realize that lots of gun shops and outdoor stores sell knives, but I am looking for a wide selection. I already know about Country Knives in Lancaster PA, yeah, their service is great, but their knives are way overpriced! A lot of the ones I looked at were over MSRP  ! I heard about a place in Frederick MD, but haven't been out there yet. Any ideas? BTW, I would like to get a good deal, but I realize that knife shops have to make a living too. I just can't see paying more than MSRP. :D

There used to be one in the shopping mall in the inner harbor area, prices where MSRP though.

DO you mean the one next to the Baltimore Trade Center? Chesapeake Knife Works or something.... Their prices are definetely all MSRP but I will say that the owner of the place (pretty young guy) offered to include shipping to Florida in the price of a movie reproduction sword that I was killing time browsing over and gave me 15% off a kershaw leek. I still paid a bit over $50 for it but was worth it considering that I felt naked without a blade in some of the areas I was in around Baltimore.

In fact... if you're in the Inner Harbor area I'd advise anyone not to go north on foot without adequate preparation.

I always go prepared whenever I do down there, and guess what, I never go down there! :D I've checked out Chesapeake Knives in White Marsh, MD. Their prices are a little steep, too, but they have a neat selection. I almost bought a claymore there once.

A post where I know more than the next guy...

Chesapeake Knife and Tool has a shop in Harborplace. Nice people, and a pretty good selection of knives. Bass Pro Shops off Rt. 295 just a few minutes south of B-more has a good selection of more generic knives at great prices.

And don't be scared of the Inner Harbor. A lot has changed in the last 15 years. My wife and 18 month old walk around downtown all the time, even at night. It's no worse than most other big cities. I almost always make the walk from the Inner Harbor to Lexington market to get the worlds best crab cake (Faidley's jumbo lump).

You should check out some of the gunshows around the state. Alot of dealers there with some good prices.

I forgot about them, I'll take a look at Bass Pro Shop. I also have been looking at local gun shows in MD and PA, but the knife dealers charge an arm and a leg, unless you want to get a used knife that's in pretty bad shape. As for the Inner Harbor, I work on the west side, and was just cracking a joke. But for the best crabcakes in Baltimore, even better than my dearly departed great grandmothers, try G and M Seafood on the west side, on Hammonds Ferry RD. Their site is www.gandmcrabcakes.com. Damn good eatin'! :)

Both are awesome, but IMO

G&M crabcakes = :)
Faidley's crabcakes = :D  :D

Oh yeah, this isn't a food forum, so let me state for the record that my Kershaw Rainbow Leek is the ideal knife for poking jumbo lumps out of a crabcake...

It depends on where you are. :)

Two of my coworkers were mugged in their parking lots at gunpoint last year.

Two students on campus were murdered in their rooms in the past 9 months.

It's not exactly safe, no.

Chesapeake Knife and Tool also has a store in Towson Towne Center, located off of 695. Knifecenter of the Internet (www.knifecenter.com) does allow individuals to pick up in person however they don't have a showroom per se. What I would recommend is going online and looking at what you want and then giving them a call to make sure it is still in stock (although it does say if it is or is not on the site) and then let them know if you want to come by. I have done this many times.

I would definitely call to let them know because one time a friend of mine after hearing about them from me dropped by unexpectedly and apparently they acted somewhat suspicious (with good reason, they are in the midst of thousands of knives). If you know of any people that train with the Sayoc Kali school in Columbia, there are a few knife enthusiasts there that could probably give you even more options.

Great, I'm going to a convention in Baltimore right where y'all are saying it's scary-hairy. I'm staying about 3-4 blocks north of the Convention center. So, do I gotta pack me a khukri and Ak-47, or will just a Battle Mistress and my Colt .45 do?
Actually, I've been contemplating which of my blades to bring along. It's always a fine line between bringing a good enough knife, and one that you are willing to lose from the security apes at the airports. I'm thinking of buying a BK&T BK-11 just for the trip.

Don't know what Gun Shows you have been going to in the Maryland area, but the ones I set up at have a good number of knife dealers, and most of them have prices way below MSRP - the competition between some of the dealers is "killer".

Check out the 500 table, 3 day Camrod Gun & Knife Show, Feb.11-3PM-9PM, Feb. 12-9AM-5PM, & Feb. 13-9AM-3PM, at Timonium State Fair Grounds, off Route 83, north of the Balto. Beltway. I will be set up there, as well as Razorback Knives, and probably close to a dozen other dealers, selling blades of every description.

Might also want to check out the 400 table Siverado Gun Show the following weekend at The Showplace Arena, Rt. 4 & Rt 301, Upper Marlboro, MD - Feb. 19-9AM-5PM, & Feb. 20-9AM-3PM. Slightly different mix of dealers, but most of the above dealers will be there also.

Stop by and check us out. Look forward to meeting you.

Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to check that out, prices have usually been high in the past, I just stay away from knife displays at the shows. I always go to the Timonium show and the Upper Marlboro show is close, so I'll check both out.
