I live in Siler City N.C. and am traveling to Oak Island N.C. Saturday for a week at the beach. I will be about 30 minutes from Wilmington N.C. Anyway, I was wondering if there are any knife shops near there incase I need a quick knife fix? Don't tell me Beck's Cutlery in Raleigh because I only live an hour from them. Are there any in Wilmington?
Thanks for any info.

Sorry to tell you this but I'm pretty sure there is absolutely zip down here in the cutlery dept. You might luck up and find something at pawn shop, but not likely.

I end up going to Gun & Knife shows in Raleigh or to Beck's if I want to look at fine cutlery.

Hope you have a great time though!

Hey Nobody, good to hear from you. I knew you lived down that way and hoped you would see my post. Oh well, the pawn shops usually suck in the knife department. I did run across a nice A.G. Russell Sting a while back at a pawn shop. I had hoped there would be a big knife shop down that way somewhere. I guess I'll just have to go without. I am taking my collection with me down so I can just look at my knives.

Hey, maybe we could meet and do some trading

You know, just incase I get the urge to maybe just look at some knives. Heck, I might even go to the antique stores in Southport and see if I can find an old Randall or Scagel

You are absolutely right Dex, I need to quit spending and try to recoop from Blade. It is so hard to resist knives

Mike, have a great time! I understand about your wanting to "get away" some times, (even on vacation), and do some "guy" knife window shopping. I'll tell you though Mike, DO NOT pass up pawn shops. I know they don't usually have a great knife selection but I have scored my absolute BEST finds in pawn shops. Folks usually just don't know what they have when it comes to knives. A couple of examples:

Years ago I went into a little pawn shop that I almost passed on. The guy had TWO BRAND NEW Spyderco large Dive Probes that he had been stuck with on a small loan buried way over in a corner. They were both low serial numbers and were marked $300.00 a piece! He had no idea what they were but thought they were neat. He jumped on it though when I offered him $150.00 for BOTH of them!

Another time on a trip I stopped at another pawn shop in a small town. The shop had virtually no knives but there was a giant folder in one of his display cases. I thought it was one of those cheap Far East junkers but asked if I could see it. He had it marked for $150.00. I noticed how absolute quality it was and then noticed the tang was marked "Butch Vallotton, Redmond, Oregon. #4 of 10." I about fell over! He took $75.00 for it!

Follow Dexter's idea about looking at their website. I've only been there once and I got lost on the way there so I'd have to figure it all out from scratch again myself.

I recall that it was far easier to get to from I-40 than I made it while I exploring Raleigh!

I've tried to find a knife shop down there with no success. Becks is the only one I know of.

Becks is in a shopping center called MacGregor somethingorother. It might not be MacGregor, but it's something scottish sounding. Don't ask me how to get there though, i dont have a clue...

First ya need a map of Cary.
Once you have that you find Hwy 1 and Hwy 64 leading away from Raleigh. Where 1/64 splits is where Beck's is located. You take the exit for H64, and Beck's is in the shopping center on the left.
Here's a link to a map:

Let me know when the next Beck's trip is. I hope to make it.

Yeah, that sounds like a good deal to me! I'll give you all my money and my watches and you supply me with quality cutlery...
Of course, you didn't know how much money or what kind of watches I had to begin with did ya!

Hey I found Beck's today.
It's in macgregor square shopping center. They moved from the place that was listed under the city directory.

I'm impressed by their huge knife selection. Too bad they sell at retail...
