ANY KNIFEMAKERS OR CLASSES AROUND NYC?

I want to learn blacksmithing and how to make knives and have been investigating knifemaking schools and classes. The only problem is I live and work in New York City and I can't find anything near here. I'd love to find a local maker that I could approach for advice or better yet an apprenticeship or lessons. I'm reading all the books I can but I am itching to pound and grind...I'm sure you makers can understand.
Does anybody need some free help around their forge? I would travel (locally at nights, farther on the weekends). I am very handy with a lot of things and feel that I could learn anything I need to.
If anybody could enlighten me with some information on where to look or what to do, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for your time.

You Might try stopping by John Jovino's or Sile Distributing, both are down on Centre Market Place in lower Manhattan and sell a lot of guns. They might know somebody in the area who makes knives.

Otherwise try West Side Rifle and Pistol Range at 20 W 20th St, in the basement. The Chelsea Gun Clus used to meet there every Saturday morning. They may have some members who are interested, etc. Ask for Jimmy Surdo ( say hi from me.)

I know there are a few makers out on the Island, but I can't remember any names right now...
