I own a small collection of French Laguiole knives and among it, there's one I can't identify :

Handmade obviously, handles of black Buffalo horn and silver Boar heads + all metal parts engraved (scalloping). The blade is marked : "Le Berger - LAGUIOLE". I can't trace the manufacturer and suspect it could mean a customized production knive. Any hint ?

That's a beautiful Laguiole. Unfortunately I do not have any information regarding its background. Good Luck

If you email Giles tell him Gus said hello.
He will most likely know about your knife.

WOW! There are some GREAT! looking knives on that French site.
Funny how different they look to us gringos!

Thanks Gus, I e-mailed (+ photo) to Gilles with your compliments. I'll keep you posted with the results of my query.

Gus, your's was a golden tip. Gilles answered my question already and was able to identify my Laguiole. He knows Le Berger in Valence (FR) who has a small production of high quality knives.

Glad it worked out OK.
I am going to move this to the general forum.

Hello Mr. Mertens,

Welcome to the forums.
You sure sound like someone awfully close...
Another Belgian here. To good to believe ;-)
About the Laguiole, if they are good and pleasing to you, don't mind the rest, as the design is made by at least a dozen companies, small and large. I even know someone who has a handmade one from Pierre Calmes ( damn, how do you write that name? ).
Are you going to Luik, Geel or none this weekend? Both will be "sharp" ;-)

Mail me at any time. Guaranteed response.

greetz, Bart.
