Any long term reviews of the Delica zdp-189?

No matter how many folders I buy, I seem to always come back to the Delica as my EDC user. It just works for me.

I read Cliff Stamp's review of the ZDP-189 Delica a while back. I'm wondering if anyone has carried/used one for an extended period of time and can post a review?

To summarize the differences between VG-10 and ZDP-189 used in the Delicas, here's my understanding based on my reading (please correct me if I'm wrong):

* ZDP-189 will keep an edge longer under hard use.
* VG-10 is easier to sharpen.

I have basic sharpening skills and only use a Sharpmaker. Is that practical for ZDP-189?

Thanks.

My zdp delica is one of my two EDC pieces (I alternate with a benchmade 530) and it's been holding up like a dream since the day I got it nearly three years ago (it was part of the initial sprint run in the blue handle). I've used it for everything, and haven'te had any issues with it whatsoever. I would agree that it takes a little longer to sharpen than VG-10, but I would disagree that it's harder to sharpen--it just takes more strokes. Other than the time that it takes to do the job, I'd say it sharpens nearly as easily as carbon steel, and holds its edge just about forever.

In response to your question, the sharpmaker is all that you should need to keep a delica of any kind in top working condition. I've been using mine for all of my touch-ups for some time now and it does just fine.

I have heard the same about S30V and D2 and was nervous. What FTB says is correct. Its just a matter of patience and more strokes. I find that S30V and D2 simply take say 25-30 strokes instead of 15 to 20. Also, if you touch up occasionally to maintain the edge you are golden. Just have at it, hold nothing back!
