Just wondering why there's not much mention of spydie autos (that I see), I assume the evil switchblade laws keep alot from the
freedom of even consideration of autos to flesh out ones collection. I've had a life long fascination with autos and any type of knife from an early age and find the lack of chatter on this forum about the two autos they offer interesting.

that being said, if you have one let's see um please!!

just found a nice post in the auto forum on Spydies two offerings.....may explain my post above, but still would think I'd see a bit more in the general spydie forum here.

I picked up a Large Citadel a few weeks back. As auto's go, and I have a few this is ROCK sloid. Easily my favorite Auto. Goods looks, good steel and Great fit. Way to go Spyderco

The Citadel is AWESOME. Nuff said. ;)

I've got three Spydie autos - Citadel, Embassy, and Bi-fold. I've never carried them, even though it is legal for me with a CCW license. Why did I buy them? I admit that at least part of the reason is the "taboo" of "switchblades." Some day we may not be able to buy them. Same goes for guns. I buy them because I like them. But, I also tend to lean towards models that are viewed by some as "evil" and may end up on a banned list some day.

The funny thing about auto knives vs. my regular Spydies... I can open a regular Sypdie MUCH faster.

The only autos I like are the classic stiletto style ones, mainly for aesthetics. I don't feel the need to buy a modern auto as the spyderco round hole is, in my opinion the best and most reliable one handed opening feature available.

Not a huge fan of modern autos but I do have a Bi-Fold that I found on eBay and, ever since I moved from NY to SC, I've been checking the Exchange here fairly regularly hoping to find a 92mm Citadel with an uncoated blade "just because".

I've got an embassy and no it doesn't get carried much I just like it and yes it seems to be a very well made knife, gotta love them spydies

I don't have one yet. I am presently inquiring about the large (93mm) Citadel w/satin blade from my knife dealer. If the price is right I will probably have it coming at months end.

The Citadel is a great auto. Very nice fit and finish. Practical blade shape for use but I'm not allowed to carry in my state. Atleast we're allowed to collect them. It's not as fast as my Protech, Severtech or Microtech.

Here goes now. Just got an email from the place I most frequently deal with, and they can get me the large Citadel in satin finish, and a great price to boot! Of course I told them to go ahead and get it for me, and I should have by month's end.

After all those good words about this knife, I'm holding you guy's responsible for this being an outstanding auto!;):)

Yeah, that's the thing about the Spydie hole - it's such a secure way of pushing the blade open that I feel comfortable opening Spyderco knives faster than any blade with a thumb stud. It's effectively as fast for me as an assisted-opening knife, and since it doesn't need a safety, probably faster than an auto knife.

I have an Embassy and an 83mm Citadel.
I have yet to carry the Citadel. It's the small one (83mm) but it's definitely bigger than an embassy. The 92mm Citadel must be HUGE!
These have replaced a Gerber 06, a Buck 110 DA conversion, and three Boker Klads. Have zero regrets, not even the Gerber (GREAT knife!)
I can carry an auto here, openly, but not concealed. So it essentially needs to be in a belt sheath, not a pocket.
However, with a CCW, I can carry it concealed. And I do occasionally.
In my opinion, the Embassy is a better quality knife. F&F is very noticeably better. I carry it in a horizontal nylon belt sheath. Just the right size.
I got the Citadel just to have it. Who knows what the future will bring for these.
