Any love for the Waiter?

I've been carrying my Waiter for the last two days and I am just now starting to see how perfect this SAK really is. The blade size is good for general tasks but also for food. It's nice to have a dedicated bottle opener and flathead driver without bulk or a weight penalty. Then there is the corkscrew. I'm not a wine drinker but it still makes for a great tool to undo knots or as a makeshift awl to start a hole. Of course, there's an element of tradition and nostalgia to the corkscrew as well. I like that. Last but not least, it's a thin lightweight SAK as well, so great for carrying in the front pocket. Anyone else carry a Waiter regularly?

I like them, but honestly I probably handle them most when tearing them apart for parts. Combo tools…nylon scales…a clean replacement blade…84mm 3-tool backspring…all good parts!

I’d also be more likely to carry an Apprentice. But single layer SAKs usually leave me missing some other features.

Too big for the amount of tools - I would rather carry a 74mm.

It's cool, though. And I find the corkscrew has lots of other uses, I mostly use it as marlin spike, myself.

I'm not a wine guy (prefer good scotch). So corkscrew of little use. I wish Vic would bring back the Apprentice - like Waiter but Phillips instead of corkscrew.
Funny you should mention it, because I just made an Apprentice from a Waiter today. 😁

I've never made a custom SAK before now, but I believe it's probably one of the easiest tool swaps to do, especially for someone like myself with no experience or skill at all in SAK modding.

I tend to agree, on the CS. I don't even drink but my SAKs just feel incomplete without the CS.. Nothing can replace it.

looks like a Bantam with a CS, I'll get it.

I love the Waiter. So light and useful. Have used the cork screw over the years dozens of times and I don't drink. Vacations present the need for the c.s. alot it seems. I'm on a Nylon kick these days but been through a couple of these in Celidor [lost] . Always have a spare!

I follow a 2 knife system: a Manager (or Rambler) plus a main knife with a "full size" blade (2in min for me). The waiter is absolutely awesome in how minimalist it is and how its tools complement those of the Manager/Rambler! I resisted getting one for a long time but, once I did, it was an immediate hit.

I prefer the Wenger alternative to the Waiter, the Entree/Classic 63/Evo 63. I prefer the blade shape & the combo tool locks when pressed into a screw head. I feel it’s less likely to twist, too; and it works well as a can opener. You do have to turn Phillips screws at right angles, though.
