Candle Power Forums has a forum on machining and materials.

You might check out a magazine called "Home Shop Machinist" (or something close to that) There is a series of three books called " The Machinists Bedside Reader" by Guy Lautard that have a lot of good info.

Canadian forum member and knifemaker George Tichbourn has a pretty good machine shop. We were playing with a milling machine on Tuesday night.

I guess it is a bit far from CA though! Yahoo Groups has a machining forum.

Go to www.practicalmachinist.com for a really, really great forum. It's geared more towards professionals, but they get along with newbies like me.
