I will be visiting the western side of Germany in the near future and was wondering if there is any one I could visit with. I wont be far from France or the Netherlands either. I will be in Cologne.

Still looking for someone to visit.........or something cool to do.
Thanks
Mace

Try posting over on www.messerforum.net and see which Makers are near Cologne who may be able to meet with you.

If you are able to get to the German Blade Museum in Solingen it is well worth a visit. Burgvogel has an excellent factory store in the Solingen area as well if you're looking for kitchen knives. The only custom maker in the Solingen area that I am aware of is W. Gorski and his folders start at around $3000. Solingen is not an easy area to navigate without a car.

I live here in Frankfurt, but haven't had a chance to make it up to Solingen yet. I have heard from others that the Blade Museum is well worth the trip.

No more info on the area, I have been on the road too much to do any exploring since I got here. Wish I could help more.

Thanks guys!

I will check out the messer forums and for sure go check out that museum.
Not relly looking to buy any knives...more of a cultural exchange.....sit around and BS...have a bier:D ...maybe check out someones shop. I always learn something just from looking around someones shop.
I find it's always a good idea to hook up with a local when traveling...they tell you about the cool things to check out.....that cool little pub or that unusual place off in the hills. Those are the kind of things I like to check out...not all the touristy crap.

Any info or advise is welcome.
Thanks
Mace

Kevin,
Thanks for pointing me to the messer forums. Unfortunately I do not read or write German. Wish I did...looks like the place I might find someone. I am trying to pick up some of the language with tapes and cd's, and hope by the time I get there I will know about enough to hopefully keep me out of trouble.
Thanks
Mace

You can post there in english, a lot of member read and write english with no problem. Post your question in the first forum labeled Allgemeines . You'll certainly get some good advice and maybe someone in the Cologne area. I'm a long way from there.

Well so far I have had no response to my post on the messer forums.:(

Sure would have liked to make a new friend or two.
I have been practicing German and have picked up enough to hold the simpilest conversation(at least with my wife). I'm sure once we get there it will be a whole other story.

Kevin, I wonder if you would mind replying to my post over there....maybe to just let people know I'm not just a crazy American, but a verruckt Amerkaner wer lieben machen messer.:D
Vielen Dank

Hi Mace, I just posted over there... can't imagine what's up with those Rhinelander People... they're famous for being friendly.

You might also try posting in the sub-forum Messermachertreff... I suspect the right people just havent seen your post. I think Uli Hennicke is on the Rhine somewhere.. he has his own forum, maybe send him an email. He's a nice guy.

If you get anywhere near Berlin, be sure and give me a call.

Mace: Did you tell them that you would buy all the beer???? ;) :D

Thanks Kevin!

IG, Didn't you know the bier is free over there?:D
I wish.....maybe even move there!

You got at least one offer over on Messerforums now Mace, I know Olli and he's a very nice guy. Post a little more of your planned route and I bet a few more guys will step up.

Excellent beer here about 0.80 Euro for a half liter bottle... which is very little... and considering the $ to Euro exchange rate, beer, sausages and rolls my end up being your dinner of choice! :-)

Could be worse though... you want expensive? Try going to London!
