Looking for custom knife makers from Ohio. Preferrably with online ordering or photos of their works. Fixed blades would be best.

i'm just west of columbus about 30 miles. how would you like to learn how to make your own knife?

I would definately like to learn to make my own. It would be a couple months though. My son is due in August but my woman started having contractions yesterday. So we don't think he is going to wait the eight weeks he has left.

I work full time, so only free time to learn would be about every other weekend. Not sure when your availability is.

i forgot about mike. i talked to him last week and he's busier than a one armed paper hanger in a windstorm. i have seen quite a few of his knives and he does some nice work.

Hey Sean. I live up near Westerville, for now. We are trying to sell our house. I haven't forgot about you either. I need to get you some updated pics. I will be in touch. -Burton

Richard,

I will shoot you a line next week. This weekend has me pretty busy.

Birdog,

Thanks, thats two I hadn't seen.

Burton,

Good luck with the sale and move. No worries, I didn't think you forgot about me. And no rush, feather damascus is worth waiting for.

Two other builders are Patrick Nihiser and Brad Fairall. Both build outstanding knives. Patrick primarily builds folders but Brad does folders and fixed blade. They are top notch guys to work with.

i'll be looking for it. i also forgot about burton (real bad memory) and we have talked several times on the phone before, we even talked today. i hope to see the knife he's making for you sometime.

Thanks for all the replies. I started to speak with Richard tonight but the phone call was cut short.

I grew up and live in Ohio. My father, grandfather and I farmed all over Ohio until my grandfather passed and my father retired. This state is a large part of who I am.

A couple years ago is when I started to get into custom knives. When I started looking for custom knives in Ohio, it was hard to find. I realized it was because a lot of custom knife makers have long wait times, some of the best known retired or passed, and a lot of newer ones don't have devoted websites or their knives are snapped up quickly.

While waiting for knife shows in my area I decided to try to find as many Ohio makers as I could. But its more than just curiousity. I want to help make Ohio Custom Knives easier to find.

I thought that I could buy a few here and there as I was able and then put them up for sale. I am not trying to do a business, although the more I look into it the more it sounds like I would have to setup an LLC.

Really, I just want everyone to see these awesome knives that the lucky few who are into them see. Whats more, I want them to have a chance to own these knives themselves.

I have friends that are into camping and hunting. When the saw some of the knives I have they are blown away because they didn't know anything like that was out there.

There are some knives I have that are just for me and I would never sell. I know there are some makers that make knives not to sell or for just one person and that person only. I can completely understand that. Ultimately, I want to start making knives myself.

Which leads to the third reason I am trying to know makers here in Ohio. I want to learn from all the tips and tricks and hard knocks others have been through. I have looked at videos and books and thats all great information but that isn't the person.

So as I see folks post names I also hope they might offer up contact information or if they have any knives for sale currently or if they are interested in selling them.

I hope everyone has a great night and that I keep seeing more names added.

Thank you!

-Sean

L.T. Wright of Blind Horse Knives is in Steubenville. Fred Rowe is outside Athens. I'm just a hobby maker, but I'm up the road in Delaware.

If you are looking for Ohio custom blades, check out the Ohio Classic Knife show in late October.
