I am taking 30 days of leave in MO, wondering if there is anyone close by St Louis area would be interested in passing on a little knowledge.

Frank there are a number of makers in Missouri, several that hang out here. I'm not very close to St.Louis and my upcoming show schedule will not allow me much time to work with anyone but we might could get together for a day. Hank Knickmeyer is very close to St.Louis and is one great mosaic damascus maker. When you going to be in MO ?

I will be in Farmington, MO (Home) from last week in Feb thru 24 Mar 06. I wouldn't mind traveling a distance, but don't want to be a bother.

Like Don said, there are a lot of good makers in Missouri and there is one just across the border in Illinois, but I'll let him speak up for himself. ;) (no, not you Danbo. :D)

I live in Springfield, Mo - let me know if you ever make it down to this part of the state.

I am going to be hunting near Johnson Shut-ins this weekend at a friends property, hopefully it didn't get affected:(

Edited to add: I live in St. Louis and get down to Farmington occasionally, but as a newby, I don't have any knowledge to pass on, but good luck in your search, hopefully you'll find someone good to visit

Frank,
You used to be Ranger or something didn’t you?

Anyway you can come visit me if you like. I am part time but usually spend the weekends and two or three evenings during the week in the shop.

The drive might be a little tough. It about 3 ½ hours from here to Farmington. I live near Truman lake so you could combine a fishing trip with a knifemaking trip. :D :D

Send me an email or PM.

Joe

Frank, please say "Hi" to Farmington for me! :) I have family on my Pa's side scattered all over down there. I spent a whole lot of time down in Farmington as a kid; my uncle was Police Chief for many years. Collected chiggers from every good coon hunting place within 50 miles! Spent many nights curled up around a fire listening to the dogs run. :) It's been many years since I was last in that area. Many fond memories of some of the happier times of my childhood.

cook, my Pa had always told me the ShutIns was one of the most beautiful places he'd ever been. Once I finally got to see the area, I understood why!

The knifemaker Raymond Cover and his engraver son Ray Jr. live over Mineral Point way.

Joe -- my family grew up around Clinton and my cousin still lives there.

Any ducks on Truman? :D

Yes I was Army Ranger. Fitzo I guess that you probably coon hunted along the now flooded Black River, St Francis River, or the Saleen Creek. Very pretty places. I guess I will build my new forge over leave then, gonna be a hum dinger.

Hey Frank, I'm in the center of the state down by the Lake of the Ozarks, You can come by here if you want, BUT first you have to go by sunfishman's (Don Hanson) shop for a day or 2 so when you come over here you can teach me all he taught you. :D He's da man, if you can find time in his shop, it would be time very well spent. hint hint.;)

Michael,

There are a few ducks around, but not always. I don’t get much of a chance to hunt them any more but some friends do. I haven’t heard very good reports from any of them. :(

I’m about 10 miles from Windsor Crossing, just south of Windsor. Come up for a visit sometime and bring your hammer.:D

im in joplin sw mo. my shop is always open to others who share the same passion, but im not in the same league as some others that have spoke before me here bruce bryant

SunFishman,

I would be happy with even a day if you have the time. Where exactly is Hank Knickmeyer live, I am in Farmington. I am probably about 2 hour from you. Frank

Frank, we might can get together for a day or so in March, I'll be at the New York Show the end of Feb. Let's stay in touch and I'll see how my schedule is running.

Hank Knickmeyer is in Ceder Hill just south of St.Loius and is a great guy. Al Dippold is in Perryville. If you could get hold of a Knives anual, it will list knifemakers by state. Now that I think about it, they're a bunch of makers in Missouri.

Yep that would be awesome. I am about 70 mi south of St Louis, so I am probably close to him. Have fun in NY, I was just up there in Aug presenting a 2 knife set that I was commissioned to do for a NYC firefighter. I can sweetin the deal with a couple of pretty sizeable hunks of Ironwood. Thanks Frank
