Picked up this 550 King Charles along with the two scrimshaw Dukes at an auction some years ago. Really like the barebutt feature. Makes for quite a different feel over the standard 500. The sheath is also a little different and quite attractive IMHO. You don't see the 550 or the smaller 551 all that much so was just wondering who else might have one? So far mine is still NIB as I've been able to resist the urge to carry it but I sure would like to.

I'll try and take some more photos by itself this weekend, perhaps for the SPS.

Very nice Haebbie! Thanks for posting those. I found this post by Joe Houser from 1999 where he states that they made 1,600 of these between 1990-96.

I presume the number stated is just for the 550 since nothing in the linked thread mentions the 551. That's roughly 225-250 a year for the 6-7 years they were produced. Heck, there have been limited editions that had nearly that many over a shorter period of time. I don't see these pop up on the auction site that often so either the owners, like myself appreciate and keep them or there just aren't that many left. I wish Buck had done one of these in burgundy micarta.

I found 3 of the 4 scrimshawed ducks at a local pawn shop. He was asking too much for them at about $225 each. He told me to make him an offer but I declined because we were so far apart. It was a pawn shop after all, which I don't normally visit because they're little more than fences for stolen property around here.

Awesome Haebbie! For some reason I thought there were 4 ducks, but have been corrected...

I'd love to see some close ups of that 550.

I'll get some taken tonight or tomorrow morning. Only gonna have a high tomorrow of 19 so I may not take any outside photos. I think those photos tend to turn out better as far as lighting goes but I don't care for the cold as much as I did when I was young.

What an elegant knife. The lines are so simple. I really love the bare head design too.

I go back and forth on clip points (110/112) and drop points (500). End of the month, I carry drop points (or clip points with much less clip). I just prefer more real estate out at the tip.

I surely would love to see slimline or 500 series options in the custom shop.

Thanks for posting. That's a real gem.
