Any modified 103s out there?

I have a 103 in 5160 and was thinking about doing some grinding on it. I want to straighten out the spine and put a slight drop on the tip. Anything similar floating around out there?

Similar to a 103. Might of been crafted from one. It's a Buck Cabelas Marbles replica. Lol

Maybe not, I put them side by side.

My favorite 103, 5160 steel, brass and phenolic.

There's one out there, and it looked cool. I seem to remember it had something to do with japan, maybe mods done there, but a search turns up nothing.

Hopefully someone will know.

Pete

I hope he doesn't mind me putting it up. This one belongs to David Martin. I seem to remember another where someone ground a clip point, but could be mistaken.

Pokt, heck, I don't mind. I was just looking for that photo. So, Thank you.
Jeff, I thinned out the hollow grind & took it higher. Then ground the top hump off. I didn't mind the original handle, it was just a little short for me. So, I lengthened it with a longer pommel and blended it in w/ a staked leather (using the original hole in the tang to pin) and gave it a lanyard hole. Thank you, for the chance to talk about it. The Marbel's Woodcraft knife predates the 103. And I like that design. I have that knife in my collection. DM

David's 103 blade is modded similar to mine. I shaved off the hump and gave the knife a bit more point. It was a perfect daily use knife in wild country.

I've used that knife for everything from heavy cutting, camp building, to opening cans of beans with it and using the knife as a spoon to eat them.

Hey, I like that, nice work. That is direction I want to go with the 103. It is such a specialized knife but I think a little grinding could make it a great general purpose blade. Either way, I think everyone should have one in their collection.

Jeff, I agree. To me it is a great skinner. Still, I often carry it for general work too. DM

Dont mess with perfection - the 103 is my favorite Buck.

I would like a massive version, built like a 124 Nessmuk style, with long upswept blade for hunting buffalo with a knife on the Great Plains.
