Are there any more pics of and stats on the Tomcat III we saw in the "teaser" from Chris a few weeks ago? The new products flyer doesn't list it. I don't have a Tomcat and probably need one.

SOG will basically take to SHOT two different types of knives. The first group will be those knives that will definitely be part of their coming year's line up. Those knives will make it in the new product promotional material. The second group will be knives that they are "tinkering" with (prototypes). SOG will bring them to SHOT to gage what type of response they get and possibly let the public know that they have many other projects going on that just what they are releasing. You should see the countless number of prototypes in Spencer's office from other the years !!!!

SOG is constantly "tinkering" with prototypes that they hope to someday bring into production...some for many years. Those knives will remain on the back burner while Spencer ponders what to do with them. Over time, his subconscious is working on them and occasionally, he'll pull it out to work on them. Actually, if I remember correctly (I can't say for sure), I recognize one of this years new knives as one they were playing with several years ago.

The Tomcat is a classic design. Personally, I was devistated with the change to the ugly Tomcat II. It didn't need a thumbstud, but more importantly, the new blade grinds were so ugly!!!!! A number of us at SOG told this to Spencer, but when he makes up his mind.....well, that's that. I still remember the look on his face when we discussed this.

I'd be interested to know what Spencer's new incarnation of the Tomcat looks like.

Getting the weight down from the previous Tomcat versions would make a beautiful concept even more appealing. Say 5 oz or so?

Last I heard the steel was going to be VG-10. But I may just be dreaming. I will have to verify that next week. I'll try and remember to find out for sure for you. No combo edge available, the Tomcat has always had a straight edge and will most likely always keep a straight edge.

Also the weight will be down. The photo is of a prototype so I can only guess on the final weight but I would guess it to be somewhere in the 5-6 ounce range.

Stunning looks. VG 10. Arc Lock. 5-6 oz. The Man is definitely in the groove here!

 What is the rc hardness on VG10 anyone know? What kind of edge holding and ease of sharpening steel is it closely compared tool? D2? SV30??
Thanks:confused:

Just my opinion based on my experiences with Spyderco's VG-10 but it has always seemed to hold an edge for me like 154CM or ATS-34 but sharpen more like 440C. So, in simpler terms, outstanding edge retention with easier sharpening than comparable edge holding steels.

so is it going to be produced in near future or not?
I beg you to produce it :)

btw what is handle material? G10 or kraton

We are going to produce the knife. Right now the expected delivery date is sometime in July. As we get closer i will be able to provide a more concrete delivery date.

Also the Tomcat 3.0 will not have a pocket clip, I have suggested making a version with a pocket clip and it seems that may happen in the near future.
