Any more news on this "Small Fixed-Blade"?

Hello SpyderCommunity,

Just wanted to ask a question without derailing the direction that the original thread where I found this information has taken.

Some time ago a question was asked about a Spyderco neck knife... I am wondering if after the little nuggets of information dropped by Mr. Glesser, if there is any more news to be heard of this small, fixed-blade, VG-10 creation? See SG's comment's below.

"We have a small fixed blade in-the-works. VG-10 - 2.75" 3 blade shapes - (sheepfoot HG serrated), leaf (FG) plain, clip point (FG) plain. FRN scales, skeletonized tang, FRN sheath."

"It's not really designed to be a neck knife."

"It doesn't have a 50/50 finger choil. But it is a full hand grip. Full skeletonized tang. More traditional looking."

Is anyone else's interest as piqued as mine by this news? I've been looking for a small, carry-able FB for long enough that I've about given up, having tried a couple of the usual suspects mentioned around these boards without being satisfied.

Who's excited?

I am the one who started the original thread, and I am still very much excited for this one! And I still plan on buying all 3 for the collection.

Hi Dieselashi,

We just received prototypes of the 3 blades and a mock handle. We'll have them at the "Meet" next week. We're still a ways off as we have to make tooling for the scales and sheath.

Will the handles be screw-together? It'd be sweet to be able to swap them out!

I'm excited!!!The SPOT was around a looooooong time ago. The Swick never made it into this country. Something new in the neck knife line would be cool :)

Sal, right now I am typing this one handed. The other has a wad of cash. Where would you like me to place said cash?

SEMPER-FI TIL I DIE

I'm picturing something similar to a fixed blade Delica, just a utility blade without any frills or gimmicks. It's a strong niche, people are buying cheaper bare-bones fixed blade quite a bit lately and I myself carry a few. The ESEE Izula has made a killing by being simple, affordable, and so basic it's good for a wider variety of tasks. I carry a pink one, it's as sensible as a pair of blue jeans. Fixed blades nowadays are too caught up in the designer, intended use, SD style, or artistic element. It's like ordering Starbucks, you can't just say 'I want a fixed blade'. McDonalds recently made millions by selling a simple cup of black coffee for a dollar. Give people something simple and reliable for a good price, it will sell across the demographics from the catalog shoppers to the hardcore types like us. Just look at the Delica, it's the affordable model everyone buys whether they're treating it like an heirloom or they just want to collect every color. I'm a simple little guy, this knife is for me.

Russianpolander, I am right there with you. Where should I drop this cash and receive said knife?

Knifestyle, well-put! I have been searching high and low for a small FB that is neither the proverbial "prybar" nor a paring knife. What we need is simple and useful; "beauty" flows from that, I think.

I am glad to see that I am not the only one who saw "Spyderco, small, fixed-blade" and thought "Woohoo!". Hopefully it includes a similarly awesome, low-profile, and g-clip compatible sheath ;).

Really looking forward to this one, Spyderco. Thanks!
