Ive tried searching for more pics of Stripped Kin knives....Specifically a Mud Mutt?

I'm about to trade for a Sweet one, and I'm not a fan of coatings so I'd like to see your naked knives. This would be used in the roll of an edc, or at a minimum of day hiking. Food prep would be a requirement.

plus I love a good patina

Lets see your Users.
Thank You!

PS...This will be my Third SY in less than 6 months.

Mods.....Sorry, I didn't know there was a separate forum for the "Others"

Using the Search feature, and G**gle Fu didn't bring up That Amazing post...

I'll be posting in That one, hopefully in a couple weeks.

We can close this post/Sorry again. :)

Good patina and occasional baby oil are my go to for all sr101 users. I live on the coastline of BC and havnt had one issue with ANY of the nakkies :) been said alot but red meats and acidic fruits and veggies give cool colour. Warm vinegar will turn it very dark but give amazing protection !

Might try to drop a couple pics later, but if you also type "stripper" in the busse exchange a lot will pop up.

I think the mudd mutt is likely to have a gremlin or two on the flats under the coating, but I think those birth marks give it a little more character :D

Just stripped my Mud Mutt today. Easy to get the coating off. I am concerned about the grey color underneath and "Decarb". Just learned of decarb when reading about stripping and now I am scared this knife is going to turn into a rust stick. Anyone know if the Mud Mutt is prone to decarbing issues and I if I need to keep polishing until shiny? - Or can I just leave it looking grey?

Steel wool and a polish takes it off easily i find.
If your still worried force a little patina. Every sr101 user ive stripped gets an acidic patina and abused put away wet etc. No rust sticks . Im on the BC coastline too so they get the salty humid weather alot too

It might be more prone to rusting, though I suspect that may be more of a sand blasted finish on there to both get the decarb off and allow the coating to stick better. If it were me, I would just leave it and forget about the polishing. You can't even do it well anyways without getting the handle off, which would be difficult to put back on and rivet yourself. If I did anything to that one, I would force a patina with really hot apple cider vinegar and call it good. Otherwise, I actually like the aesthetic of a moderately neglected carbon steel knife with the mix of red rust/black patina that naturally forms. If you just learn to embrace it rather than fear it I think you'll come to love it also.

I tried hot vinegar and it had zero effect beyond darkening a grinding flaw I uncovered. I then went out and split some wood and tried to get a wear mark in the finish or scratch something through- nothing. I am going to wipe it down with a Marine cloth and call it a day.
