So working on knife handles was something Jk Knives got me into, I've always liked working with wood but other then fence's, porches etc I'd never really done any fine woodwork.

This has lead to a few other interesting projects, once friends see what I'm up to they tend to leave "Tod do" items at my house.

Here is the latest one:

You can see the re-design we came up with worked out on the front here.

He found it in a garbage pile and wants it fixed up and brought to a natural wood finish. i don't play myself but after researching it a little bit I don't think I'm going to hurt it's sound or anything. So it's my next project (it's one of many sitting on the work bench but I did get around to doing something with it today and thought it might be of interest.

It's obvious someone has already tried to do something with it in that far corner but have been unsuccessful. Without a router cutting it was the first challenge after coming up with the new shape.

Then I've been trying to even out the cut and level off the edge before working it into it's final shape.

I'm also going to sand the face down to wood and finish the surface.

Should be fun,

Thanks for checking it out

Since it's an electric guitar, no worries about screwing up the sound. I think you could do just about anything to it.

Have fun! I love Frankenstein-ing guitars! I scrapped together 2 of them this past year with Craigslist and garage sale finds. I used to be more of a musical gear junker before getting into knives.

okay, got some time with it today, the shapes done, started sanding off the paint on the front, (uncovered some lovely scars and got the ones I don't like out), it's cold and my buts thoroughly kicked for the night. I'll try and get some more pictures taken before I go much further.

in other news they say it might get up into the 40's and above this week, so I may take some time out to cut some wood. :)

there's still a small lump on the very back end here, but the shapes about finished

okay photobucket just quit working for me again....no comment. But you get the idea.

One thing to keep in mind is the softening of edges. Think about where your forearm will come into contact with the top edge of the body. Hope you're enjoying yourself! Keep it up, looks good!

edges have been softened and the old and new blended together

(I have to do this in one other place)

Cool project Pete!

best

Thanks, Andy

I'm on the third coat of linseed oil, realized i hadn't put up a face on picture yet, some interesting grain color came out when I started treating the wood on the face
