I cannpt do anything with my paypal account, or even the paypal site. For whatever reason, I can get to paypal.com, log in, see my account, and then not do anything else.

Tonight's aggravation: I use firefox, lots of tabs open. In one tab, I go to paypal.com, a desperate attempt as its caused me problems for the last week or so. It works, the page loads. I enter my email and pass, and I get the processing page, and then I can go to my account. Great. In another tab, I go to knifeworks.com, as they take paypal. I tried to order from them already, and had to have them cancel because I could not pay through paypal.

Well, I put the items in my cart, fill out the forms, and choose paypal as payment. The page tries to redirect to paypal, gets hung-up and doesn't make it. I go back to the paypal tab, and it now refuses to work as well. I take it back to the main page, and find that I can't navigate at all again. Clicking any link on the paypal page doesn't work, it never loads. I google it. From google, I can't get to paypal links. I can get to the cached pages, and I can get to paypal through proxies like ninjaproxy or secure-tunnel, but any plain old www.paypal.com/whatever is a no-go. I clear the cache and cookies. Nada. I try IE. Nope.

I've done a secured sites fix, added paypal to the trusted sites list, enabled all activex controls, run spybot, adaware, norton (free with comp), housecall, looked at the hosts file, and no malware or weirdness that I can see (very limited knowledge, though)

Last time I had this problem, the way I got it to work for a second was switching the way I connected to the router. I was on cat-5, unplugged it and installed the little D-link wireless usb adapter. I got into my account in IE, but then it quit when I tried to pay knifeworks again. I've noticed after looking at the lights on the wireless-then checking the connection-I don't send/receive any packets when trying to get into paypal.

I've done paypal transactions on this computer before. Done them through firefox. I'm lost. I called paypal, compaq, and told my buddy who's a tech for the isp. I asked on a couple computer boards where no one has answered me after days of waiting. Nothing has helped. i guess I need a browser fix, but 2 different browsers won't work.

I use paypal with Firefox all the time. No problems with that.
You've cleared your cache? [Tools,Options,Privacy, Cache, Clear Cache Now]
If so, I'd be tempted to re-install Firefox. [There's an update out now anyway].

I never have any trouble using PayPal with Firefox, just did a transaction about 10 minutes ago.

You might look and see if firefox has a cookie manager like Netscape does...Adjust your cookies... I'll take a dozen chocolate chip....

I am not much up on firewalls but ti kind of sounds like you have looked at that also... My Norton firewall interfered with Windows new firewall.. So I turned off Norton firewall and everything is peachey, or paypaley, whatever...

Cookie manager in netscape is under tools... around here she is still in bed...ugh.. I need more coffee...

I had a co-worker at one of our 'sattelite' shops explain this to me a while back and , of course forgot most of it except for the important part.
Firefox is buggier than a summer night in Arkansas ! I used to use it , actually several times I've given it a shot with different OS here and at work , XP , 2000 , ME , 98SE and so forth , I personally have had nothing but problems with any browser than IE , as did my two co-workers that prompted the whole conversation. Firefox always worked good for a week or two than it went right to hell.
Anyway , my rant is done , I am willing to bet you that your problems will go away if you go back to IE , the bulk of the security concerns involving IE are never going to affect most of us as long as you use common sense and precations such as Ewido , Spybot and a good anti-virus such as Symantec corporate.

Perhaps a payment didn't go through. Check you account and see if everything you ordered through PayPal was paid.

this might not have anything to do with your problem but i'll throw it out anyway. i would try running adaware or spybot search and destroy or both. check your internect settings to allow cookies. clear cache and reinstall mozilla. as far as bugs i've not had any problem with firefox and am quite happy with it.

If your network traffic halts on paypal, makes me think that something is locking up the browser.

What I would to is go out and get new version of firefox and IE and install them.

I use firfox with paypal and haven't had a problem.

Paypal has some interesting security bugs. I once did nearly the same thing as you, tried to sign on paypal in one tab and pay for something with paypal in another. Since I had my password saved, the ecommerce site was getting into my account at the same time paypal.com was. It locked up my paypal account as a security breach of some sort and it took a phone call to paypal to fix it. They don't email folks and let them know their account is frozen up, because (as the guy told me) "there are so many fake paypal emails, savvy users will generally not open, much less respond to an email from paypal. We wait until they realize there is a problem and contact us."

It's worth a shot to see if that could be your issue.

PS... IE is for noobs.
