I have this kind of ritual whenever I acquire a new knife (users / EDC).

1. Completely clean the knife (more like bathe the knife)
2. Sharpen the knife because I never satisfied with factory edge.

Am I weird ? What's yours ?

Geeze, mate, you are weird, is that all????
As well as bathe and sharpen, I also lube (my current favourite is ATM diamond nano-lube), and protect and polish with Renaissance Wax. Then make a pocket sheath for the fancies (see sheath thread).
Then admire.

I wouldn't consider you weird.

I inspect the edge under a lens to look for grind marks. Then I sharpen it. If I saw grind marks, I sharpen until I have removed them. Only then will I know how good the blade is.

i think i have developed an obsessive-compulsive behaviour towards fingerprints: i must remove ALL of them before re-sheathing/closing the blade
i am mostly thrilled about internet forums for one can show others his latest aquisitions without having to wipe clean the blade afterwards

I constantly play with a new knife; taking it out, putting it back, opening/closing blades, testing the edge, etc.

I see how long before the new one nibbles on me. so far the only two I own that haven't are my opnel #7 which I'm getting kind of scared of cuz it's really sharp now, and my SOG seal team elite, which isn't really an EDC, but the SOG mini-topo I got at the same time just got a really good taste of my finger-tip. so far the record for the fastest is my Pentagon elite2, it got a taste three hours after i bought/ started carrying it. other than that, I sharpen, and use, see what it will do.

Oh yeah. It is cleaning time for the new ones. This also includes a full takedown of the knife to polish everything and to relube with my favorite lube (miltec1). Then back together it goes, usually with a dab of blue loctite, and the pivot adjusted to my liking.

Same as Knarfeng, I inspect the grind under a 10x-30x microscope, and sharpen/strop the bejeezus out of it until all evidence of a burr is gone. Then give it the paper cut test. Then strop some more. If it's a folder, I blast all joints and insides with compressed air. Then take a foam swab dipped in alcohol and clean out the knife channel of polishing grit and whatnot. Gawd the list goes on and on...:(

Yeah, I am like that with fingerprints too.
