Any new Speed Bumps planned?

A recent thread made me realize that one of my favorites (1595ALBLK) is discontinued. The Speed Bump with aluminum handle is fantastic.

Even with the pocket clip that seems to have been designed for the 1595. It has a small hump to accommodate the pocket. Unlike the aluminum model which is flat. The pocket clip just protrudes a bit when clipped in the pocket and snags on your shirt. Nothing a little bending can’t fix. Note: Screws on pocket clips on these two models are different sizes. Longer ones on the 1595 will bind the blade shut on 1595ALBLK.

Anyway, is it time to get my last aluminum Speed Bump now, or will more be available in the future. Hopefully with a usable pocket clip.

If you want an aluminum...I'd probably go ahead and grab one. It doesn't seem real likely that there will be another run. As for the clip....I suspect there may be an easy fix. IIRC a Leek clip will fit on the Bump and that has a nice bend in it. I'll double check this evening when I get home.

I wouldn't count on another run from Kershaw. There are some NIB available on the auction site every now and then.

Great suggestion on the pocket clip. I hope it works.

I see some on a few retail sites too. They say in stock and they only sell NIB. If I remember I have dealt with them before as well. I assume that would be the same. I’ll check with them before buying.

I have never dealt with an auction site. I read a lot of horror stories (as well as some good purchases too) but mostly bad.

Thanks for the help.

Gosh darn it.

The Leek clip did not work. It’s the same clip as the Shallot and Blur. It came close.
Back to the drawing board.

If you have a vice, some good pliers and a little patience you might be able to bend the original clip yourself. Otherwise STR makes nice ones but they cost 2/3 of what the knife cost. Keep banging away at it and if you come up with something good let us know.

Edit to add: You could drill and tap it for tip up and use a ZT clip.... it should fit right in the point of the end of the handle allowing you to keep it sitting low in the pocket. If you don't deel comfortable doing it yourself I suspect STR would do that for a pretty reasonable price and you could probably get a clip from warranty pretty easy.

I have bent the clip to fit OK but not great. Besides, this clip is kinda cheap sheet metal with a goofy design and shape. Not as bad as the JYD. That one looks like it belongs to a 13 year old going to a Star Wars convention. What a great pair of knives (Bump & JYD.) What a stupid thing as pocket clips to ruin them IMO.

STR’s work is great. But I’m not going through all the cost and hassle to send the knives in to him. Although after seeing what he does with a low rider clip on the JYD. Well it’s not out of the question yet. You get your moneys worth for sure.

“You could drill and tap it” you say. I don’t know how. But I have a Dremel. Can that be used if I decide to learn? This is something I would definitely take the time to learn. I also have a number of $5.00 gun show knives I’m willing to sacrifice as test subjects. The only reason I keep them is for experimentation and when they see the Dremel taken out of the box they shutter.

Go to a local machine shop if you're not comfortable doing it
yourself. The cost wouldn't be very much. Maybe $10 bucks,
$15 if you interrupted there coffee break. ;)
