Any new Spyderco slip-joints on the horizon?

I think that the smaller Spyderco slip-joint penknives make for a unique and interesting contrast to my traditional collection....

Case Peanut, Spyderco Grasshopper, Spyderco Kiwi 3, Marbles MSA Doctor's Knife, GEC #55, GEC #15, Case Mini CopperLock

Does anyone know if the good folks at Spyderco have any new models planned that are not SLIPITs or UKPK style folders? I'd sure like to see more!:cool:

I sure hope so. I know that pretty much any slip-joint or other non-locking Spyderco is an instant, guaranteed purchase for me... which maybe means I should hope they don't put any out! ;)

I'd really like some more Japanese made, VG-10 Kiwis... especially non-locking and with the hump.

I hate I missed out on some good non-locking Spydies in the past -- especially that T-Mag and various Kiwi variations.

edit: ah, and I also hope that since slipjoints by their very nature are typically considered light use and not 'tactical', that we could see some thin ground blades. I was very impressed with the thickness (or lack thereof) of the Chaparral.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciates these little gems, Will! Yes, I would agree with some more premium editions with nice slicey thin grinds in modern steels... I'd love to see some made in Golden but I know they already have a lot on their production plate. I have faith in their OEM selection so I'd take whatever they see fit to offer... (*coughcoughTaichungplease!*) ;)

Keep 'em sharp, bro! :)

If I remember correctly, Mr. Blonde/Wouter mentioned seeing a jigged bone Kiwi at the Amsterdam Meet in addition to the larger, humpless, black G-10, back-lock Kiwi. I may be working under a faulty memory, but if not then I'm certainly excited to see that released -- especially if it's done in something other than 8cr13mov.

We probably need more pictures, though, so this may be a good chance to show off my Chinese stag handled Kiwi.

Based on other pictures I've seen on the internet, I think I got lucky with that inlay.

I've always thought that the stag inlays seem more like an afterthought so I haven't bothered to pick one up for m'self, but that is one of the best-lookin' stag Kiwi 3's I've seen yet!

I'm not sure what you mean here. Are you asking about Spyderco slip joints that aren't SLIPITs? Because as far as I know, all Spyderco slip joints are SLIPITs, just like all Spyderco knives with pocket clips are CLIPITs.

Edit: Oh, and my Spyderco Squeak is one of my favorite package-opening knives. It seems to fall outside the classes of knives I think you were delineating in your post.

Perhaps I misspoke... :o I reckon I meant a non-locking folder with a classic back-spring rather than the nested double detent system that is seen on, for example, the Terzuola SLIPIT. Just noticed that Spyderco's website also defines the Pingo (which uses a back-spring) as a SLIPIT also. My bad! :)

Okay. The Squeak I mentioned is a backspring design. And it is very, very comfortable and precise to use.
