Here's my story:

I bought my AR a couple weeks ago from a dealer in Phoenix AZ. He said he had to order it from his distributor and that it should take him about a day to get it and then he'd ship it to me the next day.

Well, it took a week for his distributor to get it to him. Then I get an email that the package had been "Accepted" at the PO in phoenix. This was April 6th.

10 days later, and the status still says "accepted at phoenix" and I still dont have an AR.

Called the dealer, he said sometimes it takes 30 days for a gun to be shipped. I said I didnt want to wait that long because I think he's BSing me. So, he said he'd look into it on his end (where the package is). When I asked him if he insured the package he said no because they have lost money over the years with insurance costs. He said it's cheaper to take the loss if a gun gets lost or stolen. (I've insured guns that I've sold and shipped off and it only cost like 10 bucks). He then said if it doesnt show up by next thursday, then he would either refund my money or send another rifle (he would pay the return shipping if I ended up with 2 rifles).

Called usps and they told me that the type of shipping they shipped it under doesnt require that it be shipped for 10 days (I dont get that..), and if it hasnt been shipped by this weekend, they can file a claim.

Anyways, I'm paranoid beyond belief that my rifle is lost, or stolen. I mean, I ordered some parts for my AR and I got them from usps in 3 days. This is way too long.

Anyways, any of yall had this kind of problem in your ordering/shipping endeavors?

Crap like this is why I call and tell people to ship to me via USPS Priority, insured, with delivery confirmation. I'll pay the extra.

O yeah, I forgot the best part. I suggested that they include the insurance fee with the shipping fee, and the dealer said "thats a good idea. I'll pass that on to my manager".

I've never delt with a firearms purchase threw the mail, I hope everything ends well for you.

Here's my story. I recently placed an order (March, 8th) for some cutlery from an online retailer, turns out two of the products are out of stock. no biggie, I found one knife from another vendor and can canceled that item from my order. Just had to wait for the machete to come in.

5 days later (estimated arrival time from manufacturer) and nothing, still no big deal. 12 days still nothing. I called to see what was going on and the manufacturer told the retailer that they would be out soon, no exact date. One month later, still nothing.

So I decided to cancel the item from the order so I could get the other stuff that I had ordered.

Last Monday (4/5/10) I get an email saying that the changes have been made and that my order as shipped. I'm like "cool, I'll keep looking for that particular machete else ware and in stock."

I received an email Wednesday that another item had come in that I had on order, so I asked that when the machete comes in place it in the same order as the ordered items and received an email that the order was complete. . .

So I have a Condor 18" El Salvador machete coming, it only took a month but it worked out. :)

something's fishy. the ar buying craze was over by several months already. dealers right now should be overstocked and looking to get rid of them asap.

what brand/model did you buy online? i thought texas was overflowing with guns and steaks :D

Insurance is cheap as hell. I doubt very much it's cheaper to eat the cost of a rifle. knives, t shirts, sure.

If they were cheap bastards, and it sounds lke they are, and shipped it standard rate, It could take a very long time. Not exactly 30 days, but still very long. If it's got a delivery conf, and you've got a number showing 'accepted', I wouldn't panic just yet. You're getting screwed by shitty service, It doesn't sound like they're clear on their shipping at all. If they sent it registered, which isnt uncommon for firearms, it's very secure, but slow as all hell. Like, crazy slow.

Also, if you run into USPS shipping trouble, don't bother calling the 800 number. Call a local office, or go visit.

Short version. My former employer closed their doors and ceased trading 17th of Feb. That day I was approached by an investor about starting a new camping shop. Two weeks later the numbers are crunched it's a go.
We spent the next SEVEN weeks being told there should be no trouble getting into the my former employers tenancy, as soon as they pack up the rest of their crud and go. Then we run into the property manager at an auction. And he tells us his boss ( the owners son) had signed another tenant without consulting him. Bulls#!t ! ! !
They were stringing us along till the other blokes had signed in case they fell off. Far, far to many witnesses at the auction, for satisfaction to be realised.
Had we got our site when we first inquired we would have been open three weeks by now instead of waiting now for a lease. We have everything ready from our dry bags and soap. Rat's and Falkniven's beanies and drinks fridge organised and now just waiting.

My mom shipped a package to Alaska a year or so back. To save a couple buck she shipped it parcel post instead of first class. It took 8 WEEKS to get to Alaska from Wisconsin, and they told her there was no way to track it while it was in transit.

I forgot to ask: is it just the upper or the complete rifle?

If it's the complete rifle I don't know of ANY place that does not ship them overnight.

I was under the understanding that a firearm being shipped had to be shipped via Next day or two day at most ?
I shipped several firearms and did next day and same with guns being shipped my way or to my FFL ,just had one shipped to me and it was 2 day service(FFL had it thursday).,I pick it up saturday due to time issue today.

that does not sound right at all. From Texas to Alaska via USPS "Priority is 2-3 day service tops :D been their done that & if you got DC# everytime box is scan you can track it.

Have you tried calling DD? They have great customer service and have done right by me, for all the rifles I've gotten, as well parts when I was building some. They sound fishy.

I go through RifleGear.com for most of my DD stuff.

That totally sucks! I would never phone order/internet order a firearm from a unknown dealer like that. Always try to go through someone close to home or someone you know with an FFL and you run fewer risks of this happening. If I was to do a thing like that the only place that I'd do it through would be like a Cabela's or Bass Pro. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hopefully if comes through.

I buy most all my guns off the internet from reputable places like Bud's Gun Shop. Gun is from out of state so I save sales tax and have my local guy do the transfer for $20.

Hope it all works out, I'm sure it will.

I thought there would be a set delivery timeframe also, but Handguns are shipped next day air, rifles don’t have a delivery time frame, which seems odd. Try to contact the bank or CC company to see if there is anything you could do to withhold payment until you get your AR. A DD-AR15 is not cheap, The dealer should do more to offer you reassurance! I hope it all works out. Keep us posted

Well, I guess God got tired of my whining. Got a status update saying it arrived in Dallas today and it'll be picked up tonight! Pictures tonight or tomorrow!!!!

Well, this dealer is a high rated dealer at gunbroker.com, he just ships it crappy (thats what I get for buying with $15 S&H)

But hey, I got the Rifle (Complete rifle) and I got it for a STEAL!
