Any of you folks use fur accents (as an "inlay" perhaps?) on sheaths?

Just wondering if any of you have implemented the use of fur into your sheath making. If so, any photo examples would be great! I'm wondering if a nice piece of fur or hide can be used like an "inlay" of sorts.

How about as a liner?

Thanks for your time!

I've used some hair on hide as an inlay, but in general the hair on hides just do not hold up to useage all that well - deer hair for instance is hollow and tends to break off and look scuzzy fairly quickly. Other finer furs such as beaver or mink to tend to matt down or get rub spots. Hair on cow seems to hold up fairly well and has been used frequently for western goods as an inlay.

Here's one I did a while ago using a piece of buffal hide (bison) - it is the very short hair part from the back end:

Cool, I remember seeing a sheath a while back that looked like it had some hair-on zebra hide as an inlay and it looked fantastic! I wouldn't expect those kinds of sheaths to get much use outside of wearing to show off :)

Howdy GB - That may have been a sheath by Romey of High County Knives - he made one with zebra a while back for an African big game hunter.
