Any old Willys CJ fans around?

Well, decided it had waited long enough. Pulled the old '55 CJ3B out of the pole barn today. Gonna pressure wash it tomorrow and start the frame up restoration. Figure on spending a few hours a week, until it gets too cold.

This one is almost original and has about 15K miles on it. Spent it's life as a Fire jeep until I got it back in '87.

Like I need another project going.

MY Brother in-law and I played for years with a CJ5, 1965 I think it was,,
that was as close to the Willis I came to owning,, man did we run over some beaver dams and brooks and what ever was in our path with that thing.. :D we'ed have water runing over our feet in it. the old flat head valve seals would leak going up hill only
the back seals were bad, but it kept the black-flys away :D

Great lookin Jeep Kit. I've never owned one but I have been wanting and old Jeep for awhile now. I do have two 4X4 trucks, so I probably need a Jeep also :p

I like 'em better with the old V6 Buick engine many people used to put in. You could get it up to 60 then on the highway.

I'm a fan of any kind of old truck/jeep. Never got to do anything with an old jeep like that, but it looks like a fun project. Post pictures of your progress if you have time

Yea, the roll bar sucks.

When I got it there was a water tank in the bed. It was a pumper for brush fires and had hand rails and foot threads for the firemen to hold onto. I got rid of it all and put the temp roll bar in while we were clearing the land for our house.

Thought about putting the Buick V6 in it but decided on keeping it original.

Willys Overland is making a complete new tub, fenders, hood and grill for it based on the original specs. I think the body on this one is good enough to restore.

It was completely driveable when I parked it the last time. 45 mph is about the top speed.

The winch is an original Koenig PTO with the levers in the floor, behind the shifter.

what a nice jeep, Kit. My wife is even a bigger fan than I am. She passed up a 47 for dirt cheap...can't believe it...but someday we'll get her one...gotta be just right, though, ya know?

You will by shopping at JCWhitney for all the replacement parts right? If you need another project I can find one for you. I guess this means that when I come and visit I have to bring parts. :D :D

223? or 225 wasn't it?

60 MPH a good wind will blow it over though :D

I'm not sure if they stayed with the same 14" rims or not
the 65 would take 15" Toyota pickup rims with 600 tires ,, that would jack it up just about right for going up brooks :)
I liked the bull low in them too..
you could walk up ahead of it and take a nap before it would cauch up with you, :D

A friend of mine died back in '68 when his CJ without a rollbar rolled over on him up above Boulder CO.

The old F-head 4 was ok if you weren't going to take it on the highway.

Well, I guess it was a good weekend. Not alot of knifemaking got done though.

Got the Willys this far. Serial # on the frame matches the data plate and registrations.

Gonna have to get a new tub, fenders, tailgate and hood. Windshield frame and grill are good to go.

Frame is in good shape and the engine, transmission, transfer, winch and other mechanicals are fine.

the sales are much better after mid night :D

Kim,
That's cool, but most owners of these old Willys are sitting on the front porch with a nightscoped AR, just waiting on someone to try and lift any of the hard to find parts

Well Kit normally that would give me pause to think I might need a new partner, but you know Kim and you know he is a sneaky bas**rd. I'll put my money on him and his abilities, no matter how rusty they might be....
