I have owned 2 Spydercos in 44V, a Starmate and a Military. Once used the Starmate to refurbish the fabric on my hunting stands in SC. The edge that knife held far surpassed any steel i have ever used, polyester fabric that dulled a Randall stainless blade and a CRK Sable. Hate that I traded both off some years ago. Just wonderd what other folks have experianced with 440V

S90V and S110V far outperform it. As long as I can have knives made of them I won't miss it. I do miss some of the knives made in 440V. The Rhino horn for one. I still have a bunch of 440V knives unused. A serrated millie, a couple of Natives, and A kershaw Boa. One para2 S90V is worth more to me than all combined.

It is a wear resistant steel though, and was a leap forward in it's day when it was debuted.

There's S30V, S30VN, S60V(440V), S90V(420V), S110V, and S125V.

Out of the lineup I like S110V best but haven't tried S125V yet. But the high alloy S110V it what makes it special. The addition of niobium, molybdenum, cobalt and tungsten only in S110V outweigh the increase in vanadium and carbon in S125V.

It's S35VN BTW.

I have S110V and S125V fixed blades at full hardness and I like S110V better. I can't really say it's more wear resistant but S110V is a bit tougher and easier to work with. I have Folders in S125V at RC 62-63, and S110V at about rc 59. The difference in hardness makes them impossible to compare directly but I get a feeling of wasted performance in the rc 59 S110V, but the rc 62-63 S125V is nearer max ( rc64-65), gets way plenty of wear resistance and is a bit less chippy. Still, overall I like S110V better. It's really amazing stuff when run hard with custom thin geometries. There is NO production knife that I'm aware of that really is in the same class due to the combination of precision ( one at a time heat treat) and precision grinds. The only steel that out performs it slicing & cutting wise will be in the non stainless A11 class ( 10V, K294, etc). More wear resistance and a bit better edge stability and strength when both run at full hardness.
