What's your opinion on Dozier folders? I like the looks of them, and I know that Dozier makes first-rate blades. Is the lock-up mechanism super tough? Is there any play when the blade is open? I like the looks of the Workhorse; for the price, I would expect it to be about as good as it gets.

I have two of the folding hunters (3"). One has black, slab G10 scales and a clip, the other has contoured burgandy micarta scales (no clip). The liner lockup on both is secure and tight, no blade play in any direction. They cut like crazy and the edge-holding ability is great. Also, I have not had rusting or stain problems and I live in a saltwater area and spend lots of time in the warm months on the water. I am, however, very careful with saltwater exposure, rinsing frequently in fresh water and promptly doing a full cleaning job when back on dry land (i.e. a soap and water--toothbrush routine and drying and then--Tuf-Cloth).

They are made to very tight tolerances, with bronze bushings. Bob's reputation in the use of D2 is ledgendary. IMHO, you can't go wrong with any of his folders, any of his other knives, for that matter. Trust me, I'm not on Mr. Dozier's payroll. You'll find nothing but rave reviews around here.

Go for it.

Thanks for the info. I like the looks of his folders a lot. I have one of his fixed blades, and I know the workmanship that goes into it. His knives are first-rate. I plan to get one of his folders at some point down the road. Thank you again.

I handled one for a short time in NY and came away knowing that those folders are precision instruments. What a nice feel to them!

I have a jigged bone folding hunter in my pocket right now. Great size and weight for EDC. The jigged bone scales don't raise any eyebrows, nor does the shape of the blade. Extremely sharp and easy to maintain. I like mine alot.

I've had a few of the Buckhunters and a folding dagger and these are great knives. They are definately built for the long haul! I never had any blade play in any of the folders I had. The blades and handle slabs are overbuilt so this puppy is going to be darn near impossible to destroy! Bob Dozier and D2? It don't get no better.:D

I am currently carrying and using a Ti Folding Hunter. While the micarta handle models are nicely contoured for a suberb fit into the hands for extended use, I personally prefer the flat slabs of Ti for this type/ size knife. After one initial adjustment on the blade pivot screw, it has been sailing smooth all the way since. For more than a year now. Lockup is still tight. Bobs high hollow grind is made to cut. Its D2 steel is legendary. It can hold an edge unlike many of other blades that I' ve used. A periodic touching up on a diamond stone or sticks will be all that is needed to maintain sharpness.

The Workhorse model uses Bobs own designed TabLock mechanism. Its locking liner actually locks the blades tang from both front and back! In other words, the liner engages the full length of the tang. This design makes for lockup that is as strong as any other mechanism out there. Keep in mind that this model was originally intended as a belt sheath folder due to its size. But Bob can place a pocket clip onto its scale if so requested. For great discussions on Dozier mades go to www.dozierknives.com and click onto their own knife forums discussion!
