I've been looking for my first khukri.
The M43 is calling my name.
Can anyone share some experience with me on this elegantly shaped blade?

My M-43 wasmy first H.I. kukri. They are unbelievable, especialy the way they cut easily outperforming sim ilar sized axes in the woods. If you run a search of threads you'll find several posts of my experiences with mine.

Get it you'll see why.

They seem to be quite popular with some forumites. I've been eyeing one for a "firstie," much as you have.

I am also almost ready to pull the trigger on my first khukuri.
The M43 looks like a great place to start.
What's the best way to order an HI khukuri?
From the site?
Send an email?

I got my brother an M43 for xmas a few years ago and he really likes it.

The blade is curved forward a bit more than most khukuris, making it more 'snappy' and it cuts very well.

Go for the M-43. I suspect you will not be disappointed. Fantastic khukuri for heavy duty chores.

In my list of HI blades, the M43 is a tie with my beloved AK. I like the smooth handle plus the blade configuration.

I have an M43 and i Love it, it is, and i'm sure this goes for the rest of the HI products, a glutton for punishment.

It's in my top five:thumbup:....and I have a lot to choose from:D

Make sure you read the safety thread;) The M-43 is a little different monster compared to the straighter handled AK's WII's et al. A glancing swing is going to put your shin bone right in its path if you aren't careful.

But, man, what a great chopper:D

The M43 and my BAS are my best choppers. If your hands are medium to small in size you will probably have to reprofile the handle asit is very large in diameter.

The M43 is my next one or is it an AK that's next? There are so many I want that I'll have to get one of each....

Anyway, back to the M43. It looks and reads to be an amazing knife.

Myself, I'm seriously considering getting this as a birthday gift for my brother. It'll be his first khukuri

The M-43 is a great Khukri. It's also on my list to get again (sold the one I had to pay bills). Don't think you can go wrong with it.

Its what i am planning on as my first as well, gotta wait two weeks though as they are out of stock right now...

Thanks for the replies guys.
Which handle holds up the best, horn or wood?

nunnya

I asked Ms Yangdu that very question when I bought my first H.I. and she told me wood was stronger.

Plus from what I've read, horn can tend to become a bit brittle in the cold.

How did you know that they are out of stock?
Is there a way to figure out the stock from the web site?

I was looking at a wood handle, too, mostly because the horn is BLACK: a very bad choice for me, for a variety of reasons.

I'm curious about Terry's assertion of large handle diameter: how big around would you say it is?

I went to buy one, emailed Aunty Y and she said wait two weeks, new stock arriving then...
