any opinions on catapult?

i just stumbled on them and am considering picking one up.

I would get a trebuchet instead...History Channel had a special on them when that movie on the Crusades came out; they are awesome! :D:thumbup:

Tempest and Catapult:

Nice, opens with force, and reliably now that its "broken in"
rides a little lower in the pocket than my Tempest. USA made. Easy to sharpen.
What more can I say? I guess you could go with a trebuchet also but I dont think they cut as well and are a bugger to get in your pocket ;)

trebuchet !!!!!
This is official notice from the trebuchet police that you have exceeded the allowable use of this word in a knife forum.

We aspire to educate our members as well as display our acquisitions...Some here probably didn't know the difference between a catapult and a trebuchet...

Likewise, there are members here who don't know what a Buck catapult is, since the poster didn't include a model number or pic...

They would still be wondering, if wh4f hadn't posted a pic...A nicely thumbnailed one, too - Thank You, wh4f! ;)

i just bought a black one off ebay (BU288BK) to replace my taiwan made m16 as an every dayer. can anyone explain how the saftey lever works, must it be engaged before poping open the blade? the only thing im not sure of liking is the lack of a fore finger flicker like im so accustomed to on the m16.

i just got my catapult today and it seems like a pretty solid piece. it doesn't spring open as quick as my kershaws and i kinda wish it was a liner lock as they close one handed with ease but all in all it seems like a decent blade. what lockup system is stronger this one or a liner lock?

Use it for a few weeks, mine "seemed" weak at first but now it pops open with authority ;) I still love it!

Use it awhile, you will be able to close it one handed ;)
As far as lockup that depends on the model and brand of knife, I have not had any problems with the catapults lock.

i got the one handed closing down already by just playing with it a few times. one other thing i dont care for is that the blade pivots on a pin and not a bolt/screw with a torx head wich doesnt allow for tightening or loosening of the action. when the blade is open there is a very very slight wobble in it.

I'm curious about the assisted opening on the Catapult. The name of the system is different than that featured on the Rush and Tempest. Is it the same opening spring system or a new one? Does anyone know?

Nope, it is definately different!
It doesn't "pop" open like the ASAP knives. But it is assisted! Buck had them listed in last years catalog, but they were dropped from production soon after. I like mine alot, but I guess most people didn't... Get one while you can ;)
