GERBER EVO or EVO JR

I really like the looks of them they look alot like the CRKT M16 and are alot less expensive.. any thoughts on these?

From what I've heard, read, and seen, its a blatant rip-off of a Kit Carson/CRKT design with no compensation or credit given to either of them! If I were you, I'd consider getting a CRKT M16-13 instead. Kit and CRKT have perfected the design (afterall it was theirs to begin with), the steel used (AUS8) is better, it has the LAWKs safety feature, and it's available with a better choice of handle materials and blade coatings. Speak with your wallet! Tell Gerber that you don't support the unauthorized use of other people's (Kit & CRKT) designs!

whether it's done by an American company or a no-name Chinese factory. In fact I think this is worse. I've bought Gerber blades in the past, but find it hard to imagine doing so again. Integrity (or lack therof) has to stand for something. Get the CRKT -- I've got three variants of their M-16, am pleased with all of them, and don't have to live with the bad Karma of anyone being cheated in the transactions.

This knife is the reason that I will buy no more Gerbers.

If I liked the design I would get one of the Columbia Rivers.

Wow, I had no idea the controversy behind this design.. I thought for sure it would have been with there permission or they would be sued for using a patent protected design.. anyway thank you guys for the heads up ,,, I like the CRKT alot better anyway because of the steel used.. but this was so tempting because of the price.. And Im not a big fan of the LAWKS safety
This is why im glad they have forums like this... thanks agian..

Yes, I think everyone would agree it's wrong that they have stolen Kit Carson's design. But if you don't like the fact there stealing someone's design wouldn't it be better to protest in some way email them or write them a letter. Let them know that you don't agree with stealing design making knives in China or whatever.
But why hurt the Americans who are working for Gerber buy boycotting their whole line?

And most of all don't buy that particular knife so you can compare what similar designs they are.

Buy one if you want, but send a check to Kit Carson too, so he can rightfully get paid for a knife of his design.

Here is a thread that I started not too long ago about the EVO and M16.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=347507

You will be very happy with the selection that you made ! The CRKT is a hands down winner over the EVO, IMO. The EVO liner and scales are very thin when compared to the M16. Lockup on the M16 is like a tank (the one that I have even has a lock on the spine), while the EVO lockup is flimsy. After handling both knives, the fit, finish and attention to detail of the M16 is extremely apparent. . . . .the EVO = :( .

In a nut shell. . . .the CRKT M16 is an easy 10 ! The Gerber EVO. . . .a 2 (maybe a 3. . . .if I was deaf, dumb and blind). :D

Now I have another offer on the table also.. what one is better? M16-04 or M16-11K EDC for the same price.. Hmm what one would you get? I perfer the smaller spear point but also perfer the plain edge of the larger tanto...what is the better deal?..both are $30.00 shipped and like new.. even with all the controversy, some good things are coming out as well ..

Yeah but not for $30.00 bucks shipped :) .. Im going with the M16-04 though after reading your other reply about it being discontinued.. I will pick up a edc spear point plain later on, I may try to get both of these.. because the prices are just too god to pass up on .. Thanks for your help

You didn't stir up a mess at all! Gerber did when they copied Kit & CRKT's design! ;)

Great decision on the knife you chose to get, BTW!

The CRKT M16-13 is a great knife. ;)

I had a M1613 w/o LAWKS or the flipper, sold it, bought two M1613's with the LAWKS and flipper, they work just as great as my old M1613. I also have an M16EDC, it has been lightly used, but no complaints with that one.

yeah that is my main atraction to the knife is the carson flipper... this is the one that I got from a guy off here..
