Any opinions on the Al Mar SERE Operator?

I have been looking at lightweight tactical knives with great cutting power and I keep coming back to the Al Mar.
Problem is I haven't found much on it even though its been around for quite awhile.
So, whats the word?

Thanks,
Mac

I have one. Nice knife, but not a general purpose/bushcraft/EDC type of knife. More of a "fighter". The point seems too thin for woodworking, and the handles are also a bit on the thin side.

While I like the knife, I don't like the sheath - at all! It has sharp edges where you place your thumb to de-sheath the knife, it's not easy to get the knife out, etc... On the positive side it holds the knife very secure.

Kind regards,

Thanks Jos.
Very helpful, especially about the sheath.
I wouldn't expect it to be a bushcraft knife, I have knives for that.

Good morning in Belgium.

I just ordered mine. I will post opinions when it gets here, but I'm really excited. Bummer to hear about the sheath, that was one of the main selling points for me. Could you explain how it works for "inside the waist carry", that they advertise? I just can't see how it would attach.

EDIT: Is the folder made in Japan, while the Operator is made in the USA? Different steels too, huh? Which one do you think has better quality / is nicer, the Japanese, or the American? The specs say they both weigh 6 oz, and the 2000 folder has a bit thicker of a blade.

Mac, if lightweight and "tactical" are your requirements, the SERE Operator is a good knife. As for great cutting power....well it will cut and the S30V steel holds an edge well. I think the emphasis was on the "R" in SERE. This is a little fighter. The scales are plastic (nylon) and slim. The whole knife with sheath is only a little over 7 oz, once you remove the bulky belt attachement. It is slim and great for discreet carry in sheeple infested areas. I use a paracord and cord stop for belt attachment. It carries high and close to the body.
