Hello everybody, i'm considering to buy my first Busse knife, my first choice was going on the Killa Zilla and then now on the Bushwacker Mistress combat grade since i've viewed noss4's Destruction test on the Fusion Battle Mistress..

Which one do you think have the best chopping/cutting performance, i'll make very hard work with this knife in the forest, i need something very tough..

I also wonder what makes the killa zilla costing $200 more than the buskwacker

With equal edges, the heavier, longer KZ has the advantage in chopping power. But the lighter BWM is much easier to carry all day, and it chops very well. I'd go with the BWM, but I am biased. I have 3 of them.

The KZ2 is a LOT more INFI = more $$:D
Get both:thumbup::cool:

Its a bigger knife. Both are monsters though. If I had to have just one Id go with the BWM, but the LE version, its only $250 more, you know you want it :D

CG does rock though

You know, Kukri design blades are a serious chopper/woods knife and have been around for a long time. To accompany the Kukri, they had a Karda (a small accessory blade). IMHO, if your buying a set up for serious bush work, get a KZ-2, and the BOSS Street. This would give you a tremendous combo for bush chores. I also own 2 ea CGBWMs, and BWM-LE. I like them all, but my deciding factor here would be mode of transportation. SELF, or wheels. SELF-get the BWM's, lite weight and won't tire you out. Wheeled, KZ-2. Just my .02.

Wow thank you for your quick response and awesome pics !

The buskwacker LE are impressive ! (thank you dericdesmond now i want one.. :grumpy: )

RussMo > yeah, no transportation most of the time..

But the Killa Zilla II are more thicker, so it must be tougher, no?

I must admit, it's pretty hard to choose only one knife here..

Sure, the KZII is tougher. It's twice as thick. But that makes it much heavier. And while the kukri design is an excellent chopper, if you don't have experience with it and don't use proper technique, you lose a lot of that. Not to mention kukri blades can turn on you while chopping if you're using bad technique and hitting in the wide forward section instead of just before it.

I own both now, but I haven't had both for long. The KZII is a beast. The BWM is extremely comfortable and surprisingly nimble and well-balanced for its size. I think RussMo hit the nail on the head... I could see myself keeping the KZII in truck or on the 4-wheeler while I carried the much lighter BWM on my hip. Which speaks volumes... the best knife is the one you have with you when you need it.

fyi, if you are very serious about a BWM, you better not take too much time to decide. I think I read somewhere that they were gonna be taken down in a week, a month ago. Good luck with your hunt.

without a doubt BWM LE -- it's on my short list of shtf must haves -- add a leatherman charge alx and just about every base is covered

I started out with a CG BWM but have moved up to an LE for a more SHBM-like experience. Short of an actual SHBM, a BWM LE is where it's at...

The Killa Zilla is a monster chopper, no doubt, but heavy to carry and not so good for much else. The BWM is a light, versatile knife for many jobs.

You might wish to consider exactly what you expect the knife to do, and what kind of wood will you be chopping. Where are you? Hardwoods, or softwoods (evergreens), or softer tropical or subtropical vegetation?

I still like the original Combat Grade Fusion Battle Mistress as the most versatile, all-rounder of the BM line.

I'm from canada, i'll mostly chop pine, maple tree, birch and a lot of fir.

I must have that knife with me almost all the time, maybe the weight could be an issue.

Well I guess I'll think about it :foot:

What is the proper technique for one of these?

I'm still learning this myself. I figured you'd hit with the farthest outward spot of the front curve, as if it were an axehead. But from the practice I've had with it and what I've been reading, it's much more effective to hit a bit closer to the handle than that, where the recurve is starting to narrow back inward.

When you hit with that farthest out part like an axe, the blade can deflect and turn the whole knife in your hand really easily, but the other way it bites every time no matter the angle.

When mine comes back from getting satin'd up, maybe I'll make a little video of what I'm talking about.

I dont own the KZII but did own an actual British Govt contract Kukri in the distant past. I did a lot of research back then and from what I could find in those pre-internet days, I learned that the Gurkhas supposedly used a "combination" stroke that was basically a drawing cut and a chopping stroke at the same time. Not straight down on something and not a drawing cut either...both at once if that makes sense. Think of the actuating arm on a locomotive wheel that pulls back and falls at the same time as the wheel goes around.

I had a lot of frustration trying to get the Kukri to do what I thought it should and finally gave up and traded it for a US Govt Bolo knife that would accomplish the chopping and cutting I wanted to do without any extra thought on my part.

I do own a BWM and in my very limited experience with that it is a superb cutter and chopper.

Well .. it seems they are discontinued now, I no longer see them, I'll wait for the next model .. :grumpy:

While I missed out on the KZ2, seduced by that evil BWM LE, I still have my original TTKZ, and with the edge it has now, it is my ultimate bad a$$ chopper. Looks like both the BWMs and the KZ2 are no longer on the order page, but you can find them out there. I prefer to pay store prices when I can.

Contact Busse directly, I bet you can still order one.

Try begging, we'll never know; Amy will not rat you out. :p

The BWM combat grade is a heck of a lot of knife for it's size and weight. If Daniel Boone could only have one Busse knife it would have been the BWM. At least that's what I think.
