I am getting ready to buy a car stereo for my Blazer, the factory deck ate my Discman tape adapter, and I've finally decided to make my cheap arse buy either a Sony or an Alpine, or something in the same vein. I am not looking for an el cheapo store brand or a cheap catalog brand. I am looking to spend no more than $100 for it, must play cds and have basic AM FM. My father is going to help me do the install, I already have the dash adapter. I don't need any flashy graphics etc. Thanks in advance.

IMO stay away from Sony for this. Both my friend and I have had a lot of problems with sony cd players.

My wife and I both had Sony at one time and they gave us both trouble. This was around 5 years ago, maybe they have improved. I have a decent Clarion now, but will probably try a Kenwood next.

Bad skips? I live in an area where there are a lot of bumps, pot holes, etc. Any stereo touted for their anti skip? My Discman, that I've had forever, was really good on anti skip until a few years ago.

Under $100? That will be difficult for a quality-oriented name brand deck.

I currently have Kenwood (ran about $400) and would easily recommend them. My next deck will be Alpine (targeted model is in excess of $500).
