Any Other Famous Historical Knives Out There?

Now that everyone's settling in to recently purchased BK62's, it got me wondering two things. First, I started a list of famous outdoor books for my sons to read...kind of an off-shoot of the book discussion here on the forum. Secondly, though, I began to question whether there are other historical knives out there. Obviously, there are the Kephart and Nessmuk knives, but what about other great outdoorsmen who recorded their adventures? John Muir? Henry David Thoreau? Theodore Roosevelt? Do these greats have a favorite knife or their own style of knife?

What about more recent outdoorsmen? Aldo Leopold? Edward Abbey? Colin Fletcher?

Any thoughts?

let's list the books too, including "children books"

someone recently suggested a couple to me, like "my side of the mountain"

I wasn't sure if you were joking at first Bladite. I just looked up that book. I'm very interested. Thanks

I vaguely recall Colin Fletcher praising the SAK Classic. He also had a "sheath knife" in his original gear photo on the cover I believe. To my fragile memory he did not identify the maker's name. I have to find my copy. I probably haven't looked at it since the '80s. With a six-year stint as a Royal Marine Commando in WWII he certainly knew survival knives.

Many outdoor writers had ideas of what they thought to be ideal hunt/camp/outdoor knives. Sam Fadala used many of the Old Hickory butcher knives. Elmer Keith preferred more robust knives. I like to think that Elmer would love the BK 2, but he would still mod it a bit.

Farley Mowat wrote some great outdoor books, some for kids, some not.

Bradford Angier had a very specific Randall model 5, 6 inch blade, nickel silver hilt. Micarta handle with compass and thong.

Astronaut Gordon Cooper designed the Randall Astro to take into space.

I am now obsessed with the Canadian belt knife.....

Thanks guys.

Seriously dres I'm missing a Milwaukee tool bag full of knives. In that bag is a GR1S and a GR3S amongst other things. I am now going to put forth real effort to find that bag. When I do or if I do lol I will send you one or the other. But full disclosure i have looked off and on for a year.

That is cool. I hope you find that bag even if you don't send me anything. Loosing an entire bag of knives is just not good bud.

Not sure why I never noticed the Canadian Belt knife before. It looks funky, but at the same time it looks right. If you get what I mean.

I read my copy of "My Side of the Mountain" until the pages were falling apart. I loved that book in elementary school...

I have Bradford Angier's book, along with a number of the Foxfire Series books, in a box in my basement...
