Any other folders like the BM Skirmish with the recurve blade?

I really like the skirmish other than the lack of a combo blade and the stupid rainbow of colors in the handle. Does anyone else make a recurve folder of similar size?

Thanks,
Hawk

If you want to spend the money going custom opens up a whole bunch of options. I have been looking at Matt Cucchiara's
knives recently and liking what I see.
Also the Darrell Ralph EDC 2004 is a 4" recurve blade. As would be a large Mayo TNT, or at about that range is also a Pat Niheser frame lock folder.

Or you could look at the REKAT Carnivore if you want to stay with production pieces. The Emerson Commander is a pretty large blade too, and the Super Commander is even a bit larger I believe.

Here's what you do.

1. Buy a skirmish
2. Write Neil tellling him how much you hate his colored dots
3. Buy some OxyClean
4. Proceed to make your knife a nice grey color with silver dots using the semi-well documented OxyClean method.

I know some places will cut serrations into the blade for you if you want, too.

Those dots are obviously anodized. Should be possible to just anodize them again to give them a uniform, less fruity color.

Are you sure you'll need a combo edge? I'd just get a full serrated Spyderco to compliment it. Anyways, there's a new LTD edition 630 pre oxy cleaned

The now discontinued Benchmade 750 Pinnacle integral (frame) lock has a more subtle recurve. You can still manage to put it on a benchstone if you angle is correctly. Generally speaking, most other recurves require a rod/ triangle stone of sorts to sharpen. The 750 is also appreciably smaller than the 630. But still a good size for real use.

if you check benchmades site, theyve updated it a bit, and added a mini skirmish to their lineup, but no pic yet/.

I've thought about doing the OxyClean method and just having someone put serration on it but I would just rather buy one ready to go... I may just breakdown and get one anyway. I will check out the Emersons also. I just seem to like the big heavy-duty knives. Feels more like a quality tool than a knife.

Would you recommend the Emerson Commander over the Skirmish? Only about $30 bucks more...

The regular Commander is not a mega-folder (not small, mind you, but not a huge folder either). I was talking about the Super-Commander that is probably going to be significantly more expensive than the Commander.

I have looked everywhere online and have not been able to find a "Super-Commander". Can you provide a link so I can see one and get details?

Thanks,
Hawk

At the risk of sounding glib, you could get a 630, get someone to add serrations, and to remove the ano :-)

TAD did have the super commader IIRC, dont know if they still do, they arent all that common.............

personally i like the BM skirmish lots more than a commander, better blade steel, better lock, of all the EKI's and ESW's i own the commander is probably the least favorite, imho the skirmish is a good knife, well worth the $$,

How about a Microtech Amphibian. They are still around, and imho, smokes the Benchmade offering.

I just got my Skirmish a few days ago and I love it. It's a big knife and it fits very well in my big hands. It has a great feel to it and seems to be very well made. I don't mind the colored dots on the handle, it makes it not so intimidating looking, IMO. It's not uncomfortable to carry and has now replaced my Emerson CQC-7 as my EDC.

Definetly smokes the skirmish. I carry an MT amphibian for EDC, its not as big as a skirmish but plenty large, well built and very good quality.
